In Apr 89, band played legendary, highly surreal mini-tour of Soviet Union @ tail end of Daydream Nation tour. Performing in Moscow & Leningrad (& making memorable stop in Kyiv), they were one of very🥇Western alternative rock bands to perform behind Iron Curtain.

Russian performances were famously chaotic & plagued by inadequate equipment, including makeshift drums & missing PA systems, sometimes even taking place under watchful👁️of KGB. Moscow performances ⏺️ed Orlyonok Concert Hall on April 12-13, 1989, were subsequently unearthed by promoter Igor Tonkikh. These historical recordings were officially released as a limited-edition 2-LP vinyl by Feelee Records & available to stream or purchase on platforms like Sonic Youth Bandcamp.

Filled with gratitude this weekend! I’ve met so many awesome new people and felt a great sense of reunion with others. Happy to have such a lovely station at a great show with all the best supplies provided. 🤗. I set up alongside a row of people yesterday I’d never met before and by this evening we were all sharing in the experience of tattoo renaissance in our own ways with a new found togetherness. Thank you to everyone that has made me feel so welcome and to everyone that helped me participate. And most importantly.. to everyone that has walked up and gotten tattooed! I couldn’t be me without of all of you.
