It's cursed!! Sorry chums and collage fans - #CollageClub is cancelled this month after all. Just couldn't get the dates to fit all the things to do... Hold on to your scissors and craft knives and we'll be back on track for November! Thanks for your patience with this. The postponed workshop! This month's #CollageClub will be on the 20th (replacing the RISO session). We've got a stack of 50s & 60s magazines and catalogues plus some more recent glossy lifestyle decadence to immerse yourself in! We'll be mixing in a vintage book of beautiful opera singers and some film star fan books! As always, you can take away what you don’t use in the session if it all gets a bit too much (it always does)! Collage Club is a hands-on, artist-led, craft evening and adult social space. Learn new techniques, styles and approaches in a stimulating, safe and sociable workshop environment, with cups of tea. We provide scissors, accessible cutting tools, glue & mount board. You will want to bring your own craft knife, scalpel and cutting mat if you wish, for precision work. Each workshop is themed, with specific materials provided (Inky Fingers has a zero-to-waste agenda and processes 100s of old books each year – capturing loads of amazing pictures and illustrations) and a rolling stock of high quality images to draw from. You’re welcome to bring additional materials to add into the mix. A quiet but productive #RISO printing session this month. We had some in-house stuff to do, so it was perfect that we could offer a focused service to someone new to the process. Nigel (1st pic) brought a number of his atmospheric photos of local sights and he collaged them to create the different elements of his print. Gothic and spectral with a pop art splash was the intention and we think he achieved it! AbsCat (pic 2) made a three colour print, which led to the discovery that you get a brighter green by printing the yellow layer on top of the blue (new to us). Anyone who has bought or received one of our #RecycledNotebooks will recognise the info sheet that goes in the back (pic 3), this uncut view also lets you know how re-use our ethics are, as they’re printed on used folder dividers! Had a couple of new peeps join the team, for the ‘new term’ - as they leave education and step into the world of young adulthood. Both absolute gems and they fit right in! The morning session started with some chants of ‘destroy, destroy!’ at the cutting up book activity and descended into football banter. The afternoon gang kept it light with the usual practice of identifying each other in book illustrations (‘that’s you - a goose!’) and culminated with a measuring of the two tallest people in the room - Ali still reigns supreme and Stu had to use a chair to see the tops of the heads properly! Sliding into the slipstream of the Bank Holiday madness, you can come join us in exploring the calm of the birth of photography and its growth into the early 20th Century. We've got a charming pile of old books to chew through, documenting working class neighbourhoods, cities between wars, untouched alpine vistas, country houses and the people who live there, plus a catalogue of opera singers and review of burlesque dancers... collage club fun times! ‘Wish you weren’t here’ was the theme, with a whole bunch of vintage postcards and tiny images to work with. We talked about who we might send them to, and some are already consigned to a new art/ collage cork-board wall in the family kitchen! An enjoyable evening and people got to take away any bits they’d cut out but not used, as usual. Soundtrack was a mix of Country, 80’s Soul and Disco! A calm and collected investigation of the materials this month. Life outside was a bit hot, chaotic and frenetic, so it was great to have a fan, jugs of squash and to move slowly! Chat was varied, a bit of catching up and making plans, experiences being remembered through the images on offer and some great projections of intentions. Please say hi to 🟣 A new development - responding to some lovely vintage books… After the last couple of markets we’ve had conversations about the ‘top end’ of our range. We’ve spent some time stockpiling Victorian and Edwardian books with beautiful aspects - embossed, gold leaf, coloured printing on cloth… So now we’ve started binding them with better quantity paper mixes - laid, hammered vellum, watermarked. We’ve chosen and fitted endpapers that are hand printed or period-specific and added sweet details - like vintage bookseller and publisher stickers… We’ve also ensured that each one moves slowly through the process/ production team, with time taken to ensure the pages are cut precisely and the binding is as excellent as we can make it!
