Happy New Year everyone! 2025 was a true rollercoaster. I disappeared from this account, first by choice, later by necessity. I officially finished three books this year, and two of them made it onto this list. πŸ“– The Keeper of Magical Things by Julie Leong After my advance read of The Teller of Small Fortunes, Julie Leong became an automatic-buy author for me. Cosy, heartfelt, quietly gripping, with lovable characters and comforting world-building. A warm read that truly lingers. πŸ“– This Fatal Kiss by Alicia Jasinska Another advanced copy I was lucky to read. I’m not usually a romance reader, but folklore always gets me. Atmospheric, myth-touched, and emotionally driven. πŸ“– The Knight and the Moth by Rachel Gillig An automatic-buy author for me since The Shepherd King duology. I enjoyed this, but my expectations were high, and the pacing and emotional connection didn’t fully land this time. The rest were started during the year but paused because life happened. I’m curious to see if my feelings hold once I’m done. πŸ“– Razorblade Tears by S.A. Cosby Raw, gritty, and emotionally heavy. A revenge story carried by powerful, unforgettable characters. πŸ“– Tales from the Gas Station by Jack Townsend Picked up because it reminded me of Odd Thomas. Dark humor, sarcasm, and a very particular kind of weird. If you enjoy ghosts-in-the-real-world energy with a lot of dark humor, this scratches that itch. πŸ“– A Master of Djinn by P. DjΓ¨lΓ Clark Very early in, but clearly rich and lore-heavy. A slow build that feels like it will reward patience. πŸ“– The City of Brass by S.A. Chakraborty After loving The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi, my expectations were high. Strong characters, immersive world-building, and a promising start. ✨Here’s to finishing more books and finding my way back here.✨ #bookstagram #igreads #readingcommunity #booklover #bookish fantasybooks cozyfantasy horrorbooks folklorebooks weirdfiction tbrpile bookreview by @inkytalestrails
✨2025 Hopeful ✨ This year my main reading goal is the Discworld by Terry Pratchett. I have never read it before, so I am excited about it! Some of my friends are doing a read along with me, so we can gossip together! Here are my side bites, my side quests, my hopeful, alongside the main Pratchett journey. Books I’d love to read this years. No time limit, no obligation. In this list I am very excited for the release of: β€’ The Floating World by Axie Oh, which back in the days was advertised to for those who love Laputa: Castle In The Sky by the studio Ghibli, my favorite with Princess Mononoke. β€’The Knight And The Moth by Rachel Gillig, I fell in love with The Shepherd King duology, and I will just read everything and anything this lady write 😬 β€’ Breath Of The Dragon: I am just super curious that Bruce Lee’s daughter wrote a book in memory of her father. I think it’s beautiful. But also the story itself seems really good. So why not! The others are just books that have been sitting on my tbr for FAR too long ! QOTD: what is THE book you really want to read this year ? What is THE book that has been on your TBR for the longest time? . . #bookstagram #booksbooksbooks #fantasy #fantasybooks #tbr #tbrlist #yearhopeful #read #book #lovereading by @inkytalestrails
✨2024 Best Read✨ Absolute top reads of last year. These are books that live rent free in my nuggin’, and hold a special place in my heart. They made my heart swell, I cried, laughed, got angry, was flabbergasted, in short: I lived every stories wholly. β€’ One Dark Window: took me out of a reading slump, absolutely fantastic from start to beginning ! And I love Rachel’s writing. β€’ The Teller Of Small Fortunes: I feel very grateful as I got this one as an ARC. Made my heart swell the most. Everything about this book is beautiful, the setting, the characters, the message. β€’ The Salt Grows Heavy: this is the darkest, strangest book I read all year, but I absolutely loved every second of it. The general dark and frank vibe of the story and the setting had me hooked from the start. I will absolutely be seeking more of these in the future. β€’ Half A Soul: I admit I was influenced my instagram on this one. I have no regrets! It was amazing. The story hit me hard as it reminded me a lot of my DnD ( Dungeons&Dragongs ) character, Amara’s, backstory. β€’ The Girl Who Fell Beneath The Sea: This is a book I had on my shelf for far too long, and I am very happy I finally got to read it. It was a wonderful adventure! Very magical, very picturesque. The audiobook was marvelous as well. I am very much looking forward to reading more from each of these authors ! Have you read any of these ? Let’s gossip! 🦊The God And The Gumiho🦊 To all those who love Korean drama, or Chinese. The story blends mythology, romance, and fantasy by intertwining the lives of a god and a gumiho (a nine-tailed fox from Korean folklore). Its central themes revolve around love, fate, and redemption, exploring how divine beings and mythical creatures navigate human emotions and struggles. My favorite shows are: - Put Your Head On My Shoulder - My Demon What is your favorite drama ? . . . #bookstagram #booksbooksbooks #fantasybookshelf #booklover #fantasy #folklore #folklorebooks #koreanfolklore #folklorereads #fantasyfiction #read #reading #book #bookphotography by @inkytalestrails

⚑️finale⚑️ I kept the best for last, my favorite thing about those gorgeous @illumicrate exclusive editions of Percy Jackson and the Olympians series: the end paper arts. Truly genius in my opinion, we have @lockettstudioart to thanks for those stunning illustrations, that highlights key moments perfectly. The style is very much in touch with Greek arts, and that’s the little thing that soothes my heart. Know that the pictures are in random order. Hope you’ll be curious to read this series if it’s not done yet. I’ll be at Delphi’s strawberry farm in the time being πŸ“ . . . . #percyjacksonandtheolympians #percyjackson #percyjacksonfanart #percyjacksonfandom #camphalfblood #delphistrawberryservice #camphalfbloodcabins #unclerick #unclerickriordan #rickriordan #rickriordanbooks #illumicrate #illumicrateexclusive #illumicrateeditions #bookart #bookillustration #bookillustrator #read #readmorebooks #bookstagram #verydemureverymindful #books #booknerd #bookphotography #tbr #tbrpile #reread #bookfavorites #favoriteauthor #childhoodbooks by @inkytalestrails

🐚ARC REVIEW: The Deading by Nicolas Belardes🐚 Expected for July 24th 2024 A blend of Stephen King’s Under the Dome and the eerie atmosphere of Annihilation, The Deading plunges readers into a harrowing dystopian tale set in a seaside town infected by a mysterious ocean-borne contagion. As sea snails wash ashore, initiating a chain reaction of transformation among the wildlife and residents of Baywood, the once idyllic town descends into chaos. Caught in the crosshairs are Blas, the introverted bird enthusiast, and his cynical brother Chango, who must navigate a landscape of paranoia, isolation, and death-worshiping cults.Tensions reach a fever pitch as the survivors grapple with the choice between escape and assimilation into this new, terrifying reality. Claustrophobic and haunting, yet infused with moments of soulful introspection, The Deading is a lyrical exploration of societal disintegration, the horror of survival, and the resilience found in human and natural connections. 🌊 ARC BOOK REVIEW 🌊 Let’s take a moment to appreciate the captivating cover design that beckons readers into the submerged world of Tiankawi, where humans and fathomfolk coexist uneasily. Set against the backdrop of a divided society, this novel delves into themes of immigration, racial prejudice, and political unrest with depth and nuance. In this bustling metropolis, readers meet Mira, a half-siren captain tasked with maintaining order amidst rising tensions. Joined by Kai, a Fathomfolk ambassador, and Nami, a fiery rebel, their intertwined fates weave a tale of power struggles and moral dilemmas. Chan masterfully blends Asian influences into Tiankawi’s fabric, creating a rich tapestry of culture and conflict. From familiar folklore creatures to tantalizing cuisine references, the world-building immerses readers in a vibrant, albeit complex, landscape. At its heart, Fathomfolk serves as a poignant allegory for the plight of climate refugees, echoing real-world issues of discrimination and exploitation. Through the lens of fantasy, Chan shines a light on pressing social concerns, urging readers to confront uncomfortable truths. While the narrative occasionally falters in pacing and character development, the enigmatic presence of Cordelia, a shapeshifting sea-witch, injects intrigue and moral ambiguity into the storyline. Ultimately, Fathomfolk is a captivating blend of fantasy and realism, offering a timely reflection on the perils of environmental degradation and societal injustice. As the first installment in a promising series, it leaves readers eagerly anticipating the next chapter in this captivating saga. . . #arc #asianwriters #asianculturebooks #authorofcolor #advancereaderscopy #asianbook #elizachan #seastory #netgalley #fantasy #asianfantasybooks #seacreatures #bookreview #books #bookstagrammer #reading #booklover #theworld #bibliophile #bookish #readmore #readme #readmorewomen #readdiversebooks #bookcover #bookreader #bookrecs by @inkytalestrails
