How could it be a year since I stopped drinking alcohol? Wow! A friend of mine recommended this audiobook to me on his journey to self-improvement. He’s been sober for over two years now and hasn’t looked back. Brianne, his wife, my bf were having cocktails on the front porch when he mentioned the book to me. The reason he mentioned the book is because I asked how and why did he quit alcohol? He wasn’t even a big drinker. I downloaded the audible to my phone for my 8-hour drive home in the next two days. Jokingly, Brianne and I said, wouldn’t it be funny if I quit drinking after hearing the book? Well, here I am today, a year later, still abstaining from alcohol.

I didn’t realize that having a glass of wine with my brother on Sunday, “September 7th, the night before I left for North Carolina, would be my last drink.”

On September 8th, I got on the road and put on the audiobook for my drive home. I can’t tell you how captivating it was from the very beginning and throughout the entire journey. I knew from the second to the last chapter that I wouldn’t drink again. When I finally heard the ending, it was like an epiphany. The feeling of knowing that I wouldn’t drink again was incredible.

This book was incredibly powerful for me. It seemed to touch all the roots to my trunk of life. It effectively explained what alcohol truly is and made sense of it all.

Yes, it was challenging at times during the year to avoid alcohol, but the feeling of accomplishment afterward was worth it. After a year of abstaining from alcohol, I can confidently say that I feel 100% better physically and mentally. I no longer wake up feeling groggy and foggy-headed. The benefits of not drinking far outweigh the enjoyment of drinking. The thought of having alcohol now is like a fart in the wind, there for a brief second then poof it’s gone. It’s become more normal not have a drink, then waiting for that time of day to have a drink. Happy hour was always my favorite time. It’s 5 o’clock somewhere isn’t it?

I must admit that I do miss it at times “less now”, but when I wake up every morning, I ask myself, “Do I really miss it?” by @inmyvision2
