A sane person would make a glaze tester before committing to a full-size serving bowl that took 4 hours to carve. I’m not that person.

Worth the risk? You tell me!

Oops! That was supposed to be Sangria, not autumn purple. Part of me is glad I didn’t notice until I pulled it out of the kiln.

If you had told me a decade ago that I’d be making feral pottery to heavy metal in my late 40s, I would have laughed directly in your face.

And yet here we are.

I have no explanation.

Apparently this is who I am now 🤣🐅

This bowl had no interest in cooperating.

Rock in the clay? Check.
Wobble? Check.
Not enough clay to trim? Check.
Layout problems? Why not?

Almost scrapped it.

But somehow, it turned into a family of bats 🦇

This is one of those pieces that reminded me why I try not to decide too early that something is a failure. Sometimes a lot of little imperfections add up to something else entirely.

I like my pottery the way I like my raccoons: beautifully detailed, slightly feral, and probably up to something.
