What if you could actually fly through an entire software codebase in 3D?

Developer Rik Arends created a 3D source-code visualizer designed to handle massive software projects.

In his latest demo, the tool loads Chromium, the open-source browser project behind Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and several other browsers.

Chromium was launched by Google as an open-source project in September 2008, alongside the debut of Chrome.

Fast-forward nearly 18 years, and the project has grown to roughly 51 million lines of code.

According to Arends, the visualization can run at around 120 Hz while using approximately 3 GB of RAM. The system relies on indexing,

caching, and streaming to avoid loading the entire codebase into memory simultaneously. What makes it even more interesting is that much of those 51 million lines were likely written by human developers, with a significant portion created long before Al coding assistants became widespread.

The 120 Hz and 3 GB figures are based on Arends' own measurements and haven't been independently benchmarked..

The mechanics of mechanical engineering are continually being pushed forward by innovative designs that completely redefine traditional moving components. A perfect example of this is the development of the cross spherical gear, a complex mechanism that moves away from the flat, two-dimensional constraints of standard cogwheels. By arranging gear teeth across a completely spherical surface along multiple structural axes, this design creates a multidirectional system capable of continuous, fluid rotation in any direction. When paired with secondary monopole gears, the system can smoothly transition between standard gearing motion, coupling motion, and sliding motion simultaneously, packing a high degree of physical adaptability into a compact design.

From a structural physics and robotics perspective, this advanced geometric layout allows for incredible multi-axis freedom of movement without requiring complex joint configurations. When integrated into a prototype with an output link, the spherical gear setup can rotate dynamically across 360 degrees of motion, guided by independent driving modules that adjust the angle of rotation in real time. This breakthrough technology holds massive potential for precision robotics, omnidirectional vehicles, and automated manufacturing systems where space and localized directional control are paramount.

Watching this mesmerizing prototype operate highlights how rewriting basic engineering fundamentals can unlock new horizons for mechanical freedom and automation.

This experimental wingless eVTOL aircraft uses multiple electric ducted fans to push high-speed air over its curved surface and generate lift. Instead of relying on conventional wings, the design uses the Coandă effect along with thrust vectoring to achieve hover and directional control.

The prototype recently completed a brief 3-second hover test, marking an important step in its development. The team is continuing to refine the aircraft and its flight system as testing progresses.

This interactive River Bend Lab lets you actually watch a river change over time.

You can adjust flow, sediment and time and see how erosion, deposition and meandering reshape the channel. It even visualizes the secondary flow that moves sediment around a bend.

Try it here: sael.net/river-bend (OBJ

This is what interactive learning should look like.

What happens when you let an Al agent work continuously for an entire week without stopping?

A recent experiment by Cursor tested exactly that, deploying a single autonomous Al agent to spend seven days planning, writing, testing, and debugging code to build a functional web browser from scratch with minimal human intervention. While the resulting browser isn't fully production-ready yet, the real breakthrough lies in proving that Al agents can successfully execute complex, long-running engineering tasks on their own. As these systems evolve rapidly, the future of development may shift from humans writing every line of code to humans steering the direction while autonomous agents handle the heavy lifting.

High voltage power line maintenance is easily one of the most dangerous jobs on the planet but autonomous robots are stepping in to handle the risk.

Equipped with 3D Vision (LiDAR) and Al, these robotic systems can "see" and adjust to cables moving in the wind. Even better, they work directly on "live lines," conducting intricate repairs like peeling wires, tightening bolts, and installing connectors without needing to cut power to surrounding neighborhoods. By keeping human technicians safely on the ground, this tech makes power grid maintenance faster, safer, and far more reliable.

ASML's EUV lithography machines move critical components at accelerations exceeding 20G while maintaining positioning precision measured in just a few nanometers.

Instead of conventional mechanical drives, the machines use advanced electromagnetic systems, including planar motors and magnetic levitation, to move wafer and reticle stages at extreme speeds with extraordinary accuracy.

That combination of speed and precision helps EUV systems manufacture the tiny features required for today's most advanced semiconductor chips used in smartphones, GPUs, Al systems, data centers and other electronics.

IF DATA CENTERS NEED SO MUCH COOLING, WHY THE HELL AREN'T THEY IN ANTARCTICA?

Data centers are sucking up trillions of gallons of fresh water every year just to stay cool. Meanwhile, Antarctica has basically infinite natural cooling and zero water shortage.

The solution is painfully obvious - yet no one in power is seriously pushing to move the most power-hungry infrastructure on Earth to the one place on the planet that could handle it for free. Why? Because big tech doesn't actually want efficient, low-impact solutions. They want data centers close to populations. Close to governments. Close to control.

Putting them in Antarctica would make them harder to monitor, harder to weaponize, and harder to use as leverage. So instead, they keep draining rivers and aquifers while pretending they care about the environme

This mosquito-sized drone represents the future of micro-robotics. Researchers are already developing insect-inspired flying machines equipped with tiny sensors, cameras, communication systems, and advanced electronics. Their small size could allow them to enter extremely narrow spaces and perform surveillance or data-gathering tasks.

Although the technology is still under development, these miniature robotic systems show that the future of stealth technology may be much smaller-and closer than most people imagine.

Engineers built a drone that vanishes without any camouflage or glass. It spins its entire body up to 25 times per second, and that speed alone is what makes it disappear from view.

Researchers call it Phantom Twist.

The trick works on human vision itself. Eyes blend fast motion into blur, similar to a long camera exposure, and the drone exploits that by giving your brain no fixed shape to lock onto. Unlike a normal quadcopter, where the frame stays still and only the props spin, this design counter rotates the whole body against the propeller, cutting visual detectability by roughly a factor of ten compared to standard drones.

It is not true invisibility. The drone still makes noise, and a careful observer can spot a faint smudge where it flies. Researchers are aiming it at wildlife and environmental monitoring, where a less noticeable drone means less disturbance to the animals being studied, and it points to a growing interest in perception based stealth over traditional camouflage.
