This project was created to tell the stories of sickle cell warriors, and it was also brought to life by talented warriors behind the scenes. 🎬

Meet the incredible production team behind Thriving #ThroughThePain.

✨ Noah James - Production Assistant
✨ Nivia Charles - Supervising Producer
✨ Ramon Reed- Director

We also want to give a special thank you to Alan Lux Studios for beautifully capturing our participants on camera and for their editing expertise in helping shape the final videos you have seen throughout this campaign.

Creating meaningful content around patients lived experience with sickle cell disease takes more than a camera. It takes a team committed to telling real stories with dignity, creativity, and care.

That is exactly what this team brought to Thriving #ThroughThePain.

To Noah, Nivia, Ramon, and the team at Alan Lux Studios, thank you for believing in the vision and helping us create something that goes beyond awareness. You helped create space for people living with sickle cell disease to feel seen, heard, and represented.

🎥 This is what happens when lived experience meets intentional storytelling. by @inoahplace

We are all set up and ready to say hello at the Solano Street stroll! It’s the 50th anniversary of the stroll today. Wonderful weather come down and say hello at Colusa and Solano Avenue right in front of mechanics bank.

A sneak peek at our new work “Habi” choreographed by our co-founder, Noelle Campos. This footage was from our tech/dress rehearsal for the @shawlanderson Summer Salon.

We are so excited to premiere this new piece. See you at the show!

——

“Habi”—the Tagalog word for “to weave”—explores the threads that connect us through our shared human experiences. Drawing from Filipino folk dances shaped by both Spanish influence and Indigenous traditions, interwoven with contemporary movement, the work reflects how our individual stories intertwine.

The choice to weave these movement traditions together acknowledges the complexities of Filipino history—not to celebrate colonization, but to honor a culture that has endured, adapted, and continues to thrive. The use of castanets, inspired by the Philippine Jota—a Filipino folk dance tradition influenced by the Spanish Jota—offers a distinctive performance experience while recognizing one of the many cultural threads that has become part of the evolving tapestry of Filipino dance.

Though our journeys may differ, our joys, struggles, and hopes bind us together. Like threads woven into a single fabric, our stories intersect, reminding us that we are more alike than we often realize.

Im moving in my head, I’m shaking my right leg minimally. Holding space for what feels like the death of dance in me. I’m stressed but trying hard to hide the cycles of trauma that are alive because of #sickledcells cells. My hands, eyes and face #dance rhythmically, recalling the freedom I felt in Atlanta when my body was at its prime.
Prime.
Prime.
Borrowed time prime so prime time encores with each throbbing ache. Over time pain too has pissed on the stage and prima ballerina’d around my pelvis. This caused me to 2, 7, 4 and 8 for some sort of melodic peace and stillness
So my breath & heart beat can wade in this movement with me.
*tears*
Task is: how can I be present & yet still pour into this space and process as well?
the discipline, support & charge to create with what you have had been strongly desired. I feel the love of that and the accountability to the process will help me miraculously and help to guide my body toward a sweeter sense of suffering that isn’t so hard on me mentally & emotionally.

Thank you 🙏🏾
— w/ #love,
