Catching the final stretch of fall in Montreal before winter sets in. If you are planning a trip to Quebec or catching the last autumn colors this weekend, these are 5 spots across Montreal that delivered the best views of the season, plus one scenic bonus road trip worth adding to your itinerary.

Parc Lahaie (Mile End) Located on Boulevard Saint-Laurent right in front of Église Saint-Enfant-Jésus. The stone fountain, park benches, and towering maple trees frame the historic architecture without the heavy tourist foot traffic you get downtown. Great spot to grab a coffee from a local Mile End cafe and sit under the foliage.

Beaver Lake (Lac aux Castors) Sitting near the crest of Mount Royal, Beaver Lake gives you calm water reflections of the changing canopy on the surrounding slopes. The sloping grassy banks are perfect for walking, and the lake path is completely paved and accessible.

McGill University Campus Located right at the foot of Mount Royal on Sherbrooke Street West. Walking through the Roddick Gates brings you into a campus framed by golden canopy tunnels and historic limestone buildings like the Arts Building and Redpath Museum.

Old Port (Vieux-Port de Montréal) The waterfront path along Bassin Bonsecours gives you wide views of the Saint Lawrence River lined with late-turning red maples. The wooden boardwalks and footbridges leading to La Grande Roue de Montréal offer clean vantage points over the basin.

Mount Royal Park Trails The forested trails winding up the mountain give you dense sugar maple coverage and leaf-covered dirt paths. By late October, the forest floor is blanketed with leaves, giving you classic autumn textures.

Bonus Road Trip: Montmorency Falls (Chute Montmorency)

Located just outside Quebec City, about 2.5 to 3 hours east of Montreal along Autoroute 40. The suspension bridge hangs directly over the crest of the 83-meter waterfall, giving you dramatic drops, mist, and deep red foliage along the canyon cliffs.

Save this guide for your 2027 Quebec fall itinerary.

🎟️ Admission: Around $26 for adults (covers unlimited streetcar rides and full access to all display carhouses)

🕒 Schedule: Open weekends and holidays only (10 AM to 5 PM)

🚗 Parking: Free on site

💡 Note: Regular season wraps up at the end of October before their special holiday runs begin.

Most people in Ontario have no idea you can still ride full-size 1920s streetcars straight through a hardwood forest during peak fall season. • Rockwood Station & Ice Cream: The line runs through the forest to the relocated 1850s Rockwood Station. Inside, there is an operating vintage ice cream parlour where you can grab a cone before catching the next return trip.

• The Display Barns: Walk through multiple storage barns packed with decades of transit history, subway cars, and rusted relics waiting to be restored.

Part 3 of 6 Best Spots to See Fall Colors In and Around Toronto Before It is Gone. Parts 1 and 2 covered the popular lookouts, but these final spots range from city ravines to mountain coasters and 100-metre cliffs. Save this guide before heading out.

TRINITY BELLWOODS (TORONTO) Best for city colors without driving. Red maples along Crawford Street peak early in October, and the dog bowl gives great skyline views framed through the trees. Take the 501 Queen streetcar to bypass parking.

HIGH PARK (TORONTO) Vehicles are banned inside the park on weekends and holidays, so take the subway to High Park Station. Head straight down the wooden ravine stairs toward Spring Creek Trail. Grenadier Pond has great morning reflections.

BLUE MOUNTAINS: See the fall canopy at 40 km/h. You control your speed on a 1-km track down the mountain. Two hours from Toronto. Reserve passes online in advance because weekend ticket lines regularly back up.

SCENIC CAVES (COLLINGWOOD) A 420-foot suspension bridge over the gorge with views of Georgian Bay. Strict rule: running shoes or hiking boots are mandatory for entry. Staff will turn away slides and Crocs. Last entry is 2 hours before close.

BON ECHO PROVINCIAL PARK (CLOYNE) Mazinaw Rock rising 100 metres straight out of the lake makes the 3-hour drive east worth it. Book your Ontario Parks daily permit online up to five days ahead. Climb the Cliff Top Trail staircase for summit lookouts.

KELSO CONSERVATION (MILTON) Under 50 minutes from Toronto. Ride the ski chairlift to the escarpment summit on fall weekends for sweeping valley views. Booking your arrival time online via Conservation Halton saves money on gate fees and guarantees parking.

Tired of crowded lookouts? This wraps the 18 main spots from Parts 1, 2, and 3. Starting this week, I am sharing the uncrowded hidden gems across Ontario that most tourists drive right past. Follow @InShortsCanada so your road trips are sorted before peak colors end.

Belfountain Conservation Area is one of the closest fall day trips from Toronto, but arriving on an October weekend without an advance reservation guarantees you get turned away at the gate. The on-site lot has strict limits, and Caledon bylaw officers actively ticket and tow cars parked along village streets and rural shoulders.

HOW THE RESERVATION SYSTEM WORKS

Credit Valley Conservation (CVC) requires mandatory two-hour timed bookings on weekends and holiday Mondays throughout the autumn season.

• Advance booking: Weekend slots (10:00 AM to 2:00 PM) sell out days ahead on the CVC portal. Book mid-week.

• Strict windows: Your two-hour block begins at your scheduled arrival time. Late arrivals do not get extra time inside the park.

• Passholders: CVC and TRCA passholders get free park entry, but reserving the vehicle slot online is still required.

• No drive-ups: Gate staff scan barcodes and turn away unbooked cars once the lot reaches capacity.

THE 45-MINUTE WALKING ROUTE

The trail network is compact and easily completed within your two-hour parking allocation:

Upper Boardwalk: Walk the raised wooden path running beneath the sugar maple canopy right by the entrance.

Canyon Stairs: Take the metal stairs down into the gorge. Wet leaves make the grating slick.

Suspension Bridge: Cross the wooden bridge over the river rapids for a clear view of the historic mill dam spillway.

Heritage Fountain: Follow the trail past the 1914 cobblestone fountain and terrace built by Charles Mack.

Mill Pond: Loop along the pond edge to catch the red maple reflections on the calm water before heading back up.

PRACTICAL VISITING DETAILS

• Footwear: Wear sneakers with decent grip for damp stone and exposed tree roots.

• Village stop: Grab a hot coffee at Higher Ground in Belfountain village down the road.

• Scenic drive: Take Forks of the Credit Road for one of the best winding autumn drives in the region.

Save this guide for your weekend drive and secure your reservation slot early this week.
