As the @centrepompidou prepares for a new chapter, 298 portraits brought its construction walls to life, each one a reminder of the people who make up the city around us.
For the Paris stop of the Inside Out Project’s 15th anniversary tour, faces came together in a collective portrait of the city, turning a familiar landmark into a space for connection, curiosity, and recognition.
For 15 years, the People’s Art Project has invited us to look beyond ourselves, to see the person beside us, and to discover what becomes possible when individual voices come together.

Help us bring the @insideoutproject to every country in the world!

It started with one Action in Tunisia in March 2011. Since then, Inside Out has grown into a global participatory art project, reaching 154 countries and territories and bringing more than 600,000 people together to make their faces and messages visible in public space.

But there are still 55 countries we have never reached.

The goal is bigger than completing a map. We want Inside Out to become the first participatory art project to reach every country and territory on Earth.

And we need your help to make it happen.

A celebration of the people who make Rio de Janeiro what it is.

During Semana de Arte do Rio, people from across the city came together to be photographed, share the space, and celebrate the many voices that make up this community.

Their portraits became part of the public space, placing the people of Rio at the center of the celebration.

Thank you to everyone who took part in Diálogo Colectivo and made this moment so special.

Be part of a global photo art project for Refugee Week 2027!

We’re so excited to share that Refugee Week is inviting you to participate in the Inside Out Project, the public participatory art project created by artist JR, for 2027.

Communities around the world are invited to create their own local portrait installations during Refugee Week 2027 (14-20 June). Together, these portraits will transform public spaces with a beautiful and powerful message of welcome and solidarity with displaced people.

In the Carabanchel district of Madrid, Spain, creativity is something everyone can experience.

Through this Inside Out Action, 62 people across the neighborhood came together to celebrate the diversity, ideas, and concerns that shape their community.

Their message is clear: they want to make cultural diversity more visible, build connections between neighbors and local artists, and create a neighborhood where everyone feels part of its creative life. by @insideoutproject

Minneapolis, you showed up.

Over the weekend, the Inside Out Photobooth brought hundreds of faces into the heart of downtown, celebrating the people and creative energy that characterizes this city.

Thank you to everyone who stepped in front of the camera. Your participation is what gave this Action life. Each portrait begins with one person, but together, they become a collective image of Minneapolis.

That idea sits at the heart of Inside Out: using portraiture to bring individual faces and stories into public space, turning who we are into something we can see, share, and experience together.

This past weekend in Maine, the Inside Out Project and our Global Prison Art Program came together for a weekend centered on justice-impacted women, their families, and an exploration of continual growth and transformation.

We were hosted by @reentrysistersmaine , a Maine-based organization supporting women impacted by incarceration as they navigate reentry, rebuild their lives after incarceration, and reconnect with family and communities.

The weekend began with a screening of JR’s documentary Tehachapi and a conversation with Reentry Sisters and our Prison Art Program team, bringing together different perspectives and lived experiences around incarceration, reentry, and healing.

The following day, 38 people came together for ‘Still Becoming’, an Inside Out Action showcasing the portraits of women who have experienced incarceration in Maine, alongside the people who have walked with them: their children, parents, siblings, partners, and loved ones.

Incarceration ripples into families and communities. These portraits create a space for the stories of women — and their families — who have experienced separation, returned home, and are committed to continuing to heal, grow, and become taken in Rockland by @insideoutproject
