🎃👻2 in 1 Sensory Activities 🎃👻 Spaghetti Process Art- -Our students painted with spaghetti . The marks and tracks that are created by sliding and swirling the spaghetti noodles create spider web like marks. That can be used as a backdrop. - Children can then make a spider craft and place it on top of their funky spider web art! -Use fluorescent paint colours to make the spider web pop! ⏺️2nd Activity -Once their spider web art is complete, combine all the different coloured spaghetti together in a Tuff tray, sensory bin or container . -Mix all the noodles up and create a rainbow sensory experience for all the littles! They’ll play for hours of fun! - Hide Halloween themed manipulatives in the rainbow spaghetti for extra fun! Have fun! Our Story Stacks 🟠Inspired by the totem poles and storytelling traditions of First Nations along the Northwest Coast of British Columbia, Canada. 🟡Inquiry Learning Question- What are special activities and holidays that you do with your family or loved ones? Choose people, activities or animals that are important to you. Notes: 🟢A poster with simple pictograms of meaningful symbols will provide idea prompts from which the children can choose. Review the symbols and what they could mean to them - ie- heart.. love, house- home, etc... 🟠Each square represents each child’s story. Children are interviewed and questioned about important people, things, activities and holidays. The adult can document their responses as they share. 🟡Each child’s story is typed out by an adult. Stack all story squares one on top of each other on your bulletin board. -Place the typed up blurb next to their Story square! 🧡Activity- 1️⃣Use paint sticks- children can cover the full surface of their paper square with vibrant and bright colours. I used brown Kraft paper. 2️⃣Feather Painting Children use feathers and dip it into black paint using the symbols that they’ve chosen for their Story square. They will cover their square with 4-5 symbols. 3️⃣Altogether, their cumulative Story square tower represents our K4 Story Stacks by our K4 class family! Throughout this unit, our students learned about diverse indigenous cultures and their traditions, including First Nations storytelling. These discussions and learning experiences reminds us to appreciate and respect the many ways that people and families share their stories, histories and traditions. It was lovely hearing stories about meaningful people, pets and activities from each and every one of these kiddos! Our students were so very proud of their Story Stacks too! Bravo kids! #indiginous #orangeshirtday #storytelling #inspiration2intention #earlychildhoodeducation by @inspiration2intention
Happy Fall to all!! Leaf Investigation invitation! Introduce children to nature and science with a leaf investigation! A big thanks to @twinklcanada for many of the leaf themed printables! From a leaf matching game to various fall scene pictures to wonderful leaf identifying leaf viewers ( like a magnifying glass with various leaf pictographs for children to match ) and more! I also created some simple math teaching materials using Canva! Students will play and learn fall colours, count, work on 1:1 correspondence, subtilizing and more! They’ll also be able to work on fine motor skills when they draw their leaf of choice, decide and circle if it’s a small, medium or large leaf and name and circle its colour on the Leaf investigation sheet! Don’t forget to put out some dry erase markers! I used fall themed loose parts to incorporate those math skills in this setup! Enjoy! 🍎Apple Baking Sensory Station🍏 🍎Children love sensorial experiences! The fall aromas are distinct and apple anything is everywhere and at the forefront during Autumn! 🍏Here, our students had an open invitation to make apple pie, Apple Muffins and even Apple streusel! Scoop. Pour. Measure. Mix. 🍎Filler- I filled the Tuff Tray with oats, Cheerios, coffee and organic brown sugar. Add some cinnamon sticks if you can! 🍏2 of the shelves on our bookshelf were converted into a play oven! 🍎Add bowls, tin baking pans, cups, wooden scoops and more. 🍏I added circular red, green and yellow felt pieces in the pie pans, allowing for the children to create Granny Smith ( green) pie , etc..Doing this facilitated great practice for their colour recognition skills ! 🍏I also made Recipe Cards with Canva! Why not also practice number recognition and counting while doing their baking?!! Imaginary Play at its best!! Enjoy! Happy Fall y’all! The beginning of the school year has been super busy, as per every year. I’m finally ready to start sharing some of the fun that we’ve been up to! 🟢 Fall Harvest Market Dramatic Play area Imagine an apple orchard set up in your own your classrooms! Our students are having a blast going apple picking every day-Pick your own apples! -I created apples with red, green and yellow felt. I covered the back of one of our shelves with brown Kraft paper. Make sure to tape down all sides of the paper making it sturdy. I then, created an apple orchard using construction paper on it. -3 large trees 🟡Farmer’s Market- Loose Parts- decorative apples, bananas, peaches, lemons and other fruit. Vegetables - decorative corn, red papers, mushroom, eggplant and more. -The Play money, menus and some labels are from @twinklcanada. Posters, flashcards and banners made from Canva. Labels were put on clear bottles - apple sauce, apple cider and more. Our students are enjoying the farm to table experience! Insects & Bugs playdough sensory exploration is always a hit! Children will tinker and make cool creations for hours! Invite the littles to build bug and insect creations! ⚫️I used 2 trays with multiple compartments, showcasing various insect & bug themed loose parts plus some more neutral pieces and tools! You can add googly eyes, popsicle sticks and even pipe cleaners too! ⚫️I placed a bunch of spring themed playdough mats/ scenes from @twinklcanada ⚫️Add some balls of playdough. Display the playdough at the centre of the table to allow the preschoolers to choose the colour they’d like. Include at least one ball of playdough per mat. ⚫️Extension - Ask each child to share their creations with you, document it by taking pictures and/or videotape them sharing the story of their little critters! You can encourage them to start their stories with Once upon a time … and to end their story with The End! ⚫️Storytelling through play is a great way for children to build confidence and enhance their imagination skills! Mars Sensory Exploration Kids love exploring Planets. There’s a whole lot of curiosity about Mars. Discussions can revolve around characteristics of Mars, etc… Starting point can be that Mars is called the red planet. You can add that Mars is rocky and dusty. Mars has a lot of volcanoes too. No humans have visited Mars yet but there have been Mars Rovers ( robots) and other spacecrafts that have visited and sent pictures and information back here on earth! Use books and educational videos to expand on these topics! Caroline #inspiration2intention #sensoryplayideas #supportlocal #playbasededucation by @inspiration2intention
