Quick tips for prose...

Prose is such a personal part of writing because every writer's voice and style is different. However, these are some of the most common pieces or feedback I give the writers I work with, so if you're interested in refining your line by line writing or learning how to read your work critically, take a look!

Different types of antagonist...

I love to read and write antagonists. A complex antagonist is often more compelling to me than a complex protagonist.

👉 Swipe through to see some different types of antagonists.

(All the categories are just ones I made up and named myself. These also aren't the only options for antagonists. This post is just intended to be a fun way of breaking down antagonist archetypes.)

.💬 Let me know in the comments which categories your antagonist falls under! (Or which ones are your favourite!) by @inspiredcreativeco_

Genre challenges: why each genre is hard to write

There can be a lot of discourse about which genre is hardest to write or stereotypes that one genre is more serious than the other, but every genre is valid and every genre has its difficulties.

I hope this post will make you feel seen and recognised for what it takes to write the book you're writing.

👉 Swipe on through to see some of the challenges in writing fantasy, science fiction, horror, crime, thriller, mystery, romance, and historical fiction. (I have written all of these except science fiction, and I can absolutely attest to how difficult they can be!)

💬 Let me know in the comments which challenge you would add to your genre! by @inspiredcreativeco_

How to develop your character arcs

A character arc is the inner journey your character goes on. In most stories, the protagonist experiences a positive character arc so they can end in a better place than the one they started in.

Here are some things that may be causing weak character arcs in your book:

1 - INCONSISTENT GOALS AND/OR MOTIVATIONS
2 - LOW STAKES AND/OR MINIMAL STRUGGLE
3 - LACK OF PERSONALITY OR INTRIGUE
4 - LACK OF GROWTH
5 - BEING PASSIVE OR A BYSTANDER

👉 Swipe through to understand why these matter and how you can fix them!

How I set up Scrivener for drafting!

I've been working on some new story ideas recently and it's been a delight to exercise the drafting muscle again after so long working on revisions.

Since I've been setting up new Scrivener documents for the projects, I thought I'd show you the features I use and how I get started.

If you use Scrivener, what other features do you use while drafting?

If you don't use Scrivener, what's your process for getting ready to draft?
