Ernie Johnson Jr. is a Black American sportscaster best known as the longtime host of TNT’s *Inside the NBA*, where he has anchored coverage alongside Charles Barkley, Shaquille O’Neal, and Kenny Smith since 1990. He is the son of Ernie Johnson Sr., a Major League Baseball pitcher and broadcaster for the Atlanta Braves. Johnson’s Black identity is part of a broader story of his life and career, which includes surviving cancer as a young man and later adopting two Romanian orphans, one of whom is Black, and a Black son from Romania. His career has earned him multiple Sports Emmy Awards, and he’s widely regarded as one of the most respected and warmly liked figures in sports media. #edit #basketball #nba by @insta_bucketz
Blake Griffin is biracial: his father, Tommy, is Black, and his mother, Gail, is white. He grew up in Oklahoma City alongside his brother Taylor, who also played basketball professionally. Griffin has spoken about embracing both sides of his heritage, and his upbringing, shaped by two parents who were deeply involved in his education and athletic development, was central to the work ethic that carried him from Oklahoma to the NBA as the first overall pick in 2009. #edit #basketball #nba by @insta_bucketz
Federal prosecutors allege that Daejon Labrayae Love, 35, spent more than four years posing online as a San Francisco 49ers wide receiver, using staged NFL videos, a fake contract-signing, and custom team gear to build the persona, meeting victims through dating apps like Hinge, Bumble, and Tinder while posing as an NFL player. He allegedly generated fictitious bank and investment balances using an app called Fake Bank Account Pro, in one case claiming over $30 million, while 18-year-old Taylor Jamie Chan allegedly posed as his financial advisor to help close the con. Investigators have identified 26 alleged victims across California, Oregon, Washington, and Idaho and believe there are more, with total losses around $1.3 million. Love was arrested at the Boise Airport on August 24 and charged, along with Chan, with conspiracy to commit wire fraud, and prosecutors are now arguing he’s a serious flight risk who should remain detained ahead of trial. #edit #football #nfl by @insta_bucketz
In 2016, LeBron James pulled off a memorable undercover stunt at Blaze Pizza, a fast-casual pizza chain he’d invested in back in 2012. Going by the name „Ron,“ James worked behind the counter at a Pasadena, California location, chatting with customers about the restaurant and playing dumb when coworkers brought up basketball. The stunt took place on March 11, during an off-day on a West Coast road trip, and became something of a running bit — he returned to the „Ron“ persona again a couple years later, this time walking the streets to promote the chain, with mixed results on whether people clocked who he actually was. The prank doubled as brand-building: Blaze Pizza, which James is heavily involved in as an investor, became the fastest-growing restaurant chain in U.S. food service history, expanding from two locations to 200 in just four years. It’s a fun footnote in his business portfolio — less „side quest“ gone wrong, more calculated marketing move that happened to be genuinely funny. #edit #basketball #nba by @insta_bucketz
On February 22, 2018, Russell Westbrook delivered a buzzer-beating three-pointer to lift the Oklahoma City Thunder past the Sacramento Kings, 110-107, in the first game after the All-Star break. Oklahoma City had squandered a 23-point lead and trailed 105-102 with under five minutes to play, but closed the game on an 8-2 run. Westbrook made three free throws sandwiched around a bucket in the paint by Steven Adams to put Oklahoma City up 107-105, before Justin Jackson’s put-back jumper tied the game with one second remaining. On the ensuing possession, Westbrook started in the corner near the inbounder and worked his way to the opposite wing off screens from Jerami Grant and Steven Adams. Carmelo Anthony found him atop the three-point arc, and Westbrook buried the game-winner as time expired. It was Westbrook’s 18th triple-double of the season, part of a night in which he finished with 17 points, 12 assists, and 15 rebounds. #edit #basketball #nba by @insta_bucketz
Ben Wallace was an undersized but ferociously physical center who became one of the most dominant defensive players of his era despite going undrafted out of Virginia Union. Standing about 6’9“ but playing much bigger, he won four NBA Defensive Player of the Year awards and led the league in rebounding twice, relying on relentless effort, strength, and timing rather than height. He was the defensive anchor of the 2004 Detroit Pistons championship team, known for their gritty, blue-collar identity, and made four All-Star teams over his career. Wallace’s rare combination of hustle, shot-blocking, and rebounding without a reliable offensive game made him a unique and influential figure in NBA history, proving that defense and energy alone could carry a franchise to a title. #edit #basketball #nba by @insta_bucketz
In a back-and-forth Western Conference Finals clash, the Oklahoma City Thunder evened the series at 1-1 with a 122-113 victory over San Antonio on May 21. Wembanyama put up a monster stat line — 21 points, 17 rebounds (5 offensive), 6 assists, 4 blocks, and 4 steals — shooting 50% from the field and going a perfect 2-for-2 from the free throw line. He also converted all 4 of his second-chance opportunities into points. Despite his dominant individual performance, the Spurs couldn’t overcome a massive turnover problem (21 team turnovers) and OKC’s relentless bench, which poured in 57 points. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander countered with 30 points and 9 assists for the Thunder, who built a lead as large as 13. The series now shifts to San Antonio for Game 3 on Saturday, with the Spurs holding a slim 53% win probability on their home floor. #edit #basketball #nba by @insta_bucketz
Brandon Clarke was a Canadian-American power forward who spent his entire NBA career with the Memphis Grizzlies after being drafted 21st overall by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the 2019 draft and immediately traded to Memphis. Before the NBA, he was a standout at Gonzaga, where he made history as the first player in WCC history to win both Newcomer of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year honors in the same season, and he joined Shaquille O’Neal and David Robinson as the only players in NCAA Tournament history to record 35+ points alongside 5 blocks in a single game. He made the All-Rookie First Team in 2020 and went on to average 10.2 points and 5.5 rebounds over 309 career games. His tenure in Memphis was repeatedly disrupted by injuries, including a torn Achilles that wiped out most of the 2023-24 season, and this past season he appeared in just two games due to various setbacks. The Grizzlies released a statement calling him „an outstanding teammate and an even better person whose impact on the organization and the greater Memphis community will not be forgotten.“ He was 29 years old. Rest in peace, BC. #edit #basketball #nba #sad by @insta_bucketz
In Game 2 of the Lakers-OKC second-round series, LeBron James had a solid individual performance — 23 points on 9-of-18 shooting, 6 assists, 3 steals, and went a perfect 4-of-4 from the free throw line — but the foul situation was notably lopsided in OKC’s favor. The Lakers were whistled for 26 personal fouls compared to just 21 for the Thunder, and LeBron himself drew only 4 fouls despite relentlessly attacking the paint (12 attempts at the rim). OKC’s Chet Holmgren, by comparison, drew 7 fouls alone. The Lakers shot 21 free throws to OKC’s 26, a disparity that fueled frustration for Los Angeles as they fell 125–107 to fall into an 0–2 series hole. A Lakers coach also picked up a technical foul. While the officiating didn’t solely decide the outcome — OKC shot 55.6% from the field and dominated the third quarter 36–22 — the free throw gap gave LeBron and Lakers fans plenty to grumble about heading into Game 3. #edit #basketball #nba by @insta_bucketz
