25 years. I can’t believe it. Luke was just starting 1st grade and Mayah started preschool. This first pic is a picture of a funeral procession down our street. I took it from my fire escape just off our kitchen in Bay Ridge Brooklyn. There were quite a few of those funeral processions in the weeks after 9/11. I remember. šŸ’” #911 by @instacarolinetimm

Sophomore! It’s a beautiful day. I love new beginnings. She said she didn’t need a new backpack or new school supplies. ā€œWe bought too much last year.ā€ Ok then! Smart, kind, goofy, patient and frugal, apparently! by @instacarolinetimm

This kid. She chose this song for the PDC Alumni Cabaret. And the outfit. She is unhinged and I love it. Bravo, @peculiarteacup for being exactly you …and exactly this old man. šŸ˜‚ ā€œThis is the song that no one likes.ā€ #thisisthesongthatnoonelikes #theaterkid by @instacarolinetimm

It was such a special night last night with kids I’ve known since they were tiny performing in a cabaret to celebrate PDC’s 10th Anniversary. Conceived and directed by former student Ami @froggieami -I’m proud of you! Bravo! XO and I’m proud of all ā€œmyā€ kids up there (including my actual own kid who performed a hilarious song that I’ll post). 10 years. I can’t keep going this way for another 10, but SOMEone can so PDC can keep going. We do too much good to stop. I cried, but I didn’t ugly cry so yay! Ardie recorded a cover of the song 500 Miles by Peter, Paul and Mary. It’s beautiful! All voices you hear are hers and she edited them together. šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜where is the heart ears emoji when you need it?!? by @instacarolinetimm

I was able to steal some photos from friends to make this post! I spent the reunion just relaxing and chatting and it was exactly what I needed. A zillion thank-yous to the reunion crew who crafted such a fun, well organized few days of togetherness.
It’s easy to forget that I have people who cheer me on and support me from afar - global love and support in everything I do. We’re a unique bunch of friends who have become family after 32 years! It fills me with love and gives me hope in this divided, sometimes stupid world. Did I need to travel across the world to be reminded? Yes I guess so. And I’d do it again in a heartbeat. Thank you, friends, for being exactly you for me and allowing me to be exactly who I am. Always. at whatever age and stage. How long will we be able to sleep in bunk beds, though? Asking for a friend. His name is Ehren. šŸ˜œā¤ļø by @instacarolinetimm

This post is not as ā€œdeep thoughts with Carolineā€ as the last one. It’s just food. Something I didn’t think I’d say: ā€œI didn’t take enough food and cafe pics.ā€ šŸ¤·šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø Observation - simple food and drinks in Portland are more expensive than food in Paris. Also, I had a LOT of aperol spritz’s, guys. Don’t think they all needed to be catalogued but still. #vacaysh by @instacarolinetimm

Plus de portes. More door pics- this time at churches, museums, etc. PDC is celebrating its 10 year anniversary this summer and I keep thinking I need to write a reflection on the past 10 years. I tried starting it on the plane and just couldn’t. But maybe this rambling Instagram post will be my reflection. Why did doors speak to me? ā€œWhen one door closes another one opens.ā€ ?? I’m realizing it hasn’t been my obsession with doors on this trip, but with the attention to DETAIL. The craftsmanship of the door, door knocker, finials, gates, color, framing, etc. God (or the devil!) is in the details! You could just make a boring door OR you could walk through a marvel of artistry, design, craftsmanship, teamwork, beauty every single day as you come home from work or school or the grocery store. For the past year I have been thinking about this 10 year marker. I have been told to not work so hard (that part I agree with) and have been trying to adopt the ā€œgood enough is good enoughā€ mentality. ā€œCaroline, they’re kids. It’s fine. Provide a place for them to be dropped and have fun singing and dancing. It’s fine. Who cares?ā€. Well. I do. And I have to figure out how to get everybody else to care, too. Not how to lower my standards of excellence. No one gets into theater to run a child care business. In the past year I’ve been more overwhelmed than I have ever been: finding/moving into a new space, adapting how our programs are run (& having to explain that to so many people), dreaming up new possibilities, seeing how families/kids have changed over 20+ years teaching kids, Ardie graduating from the OG PDC K-8 program…what am I running myself ragged for? It is to help kids relate to each other by looking at and appreciating the details in everyday life. Thinking. Listening. Seeing each other. Training a kid to be an actor is mindfulness. And we need that in a loud, stressful world. Maybe the Actors Checklist is life’s checklist: Who are you? What do you need/want? How will you get it? How do you want to make them feel? Sigh. Anyway, enjoy my door pics. ā¤ļø by @instacarolinetimm

Got a little obsessed with doors while in Paris. Most of these are just doors to apartment buildings and an occasional office building NOT the grand entrances to epic buildings (which I also couldn’t resist getting pictures of…). I know we have some old cities in the US. I know it’s Paris. But I’m lamenting the modern, boring buildings being built now. Sigh. taken in Paris, France by @instacarolinetimm
