This is an inside look at what it’s like to deal with severe dementia. In my mother’s case she is Deaf and has been living with dementia for 7 years.
She has lost her ability to communicate in sign language. On this day, I just really feel like she was trying to tell me something, but couldn’t. 🙏🏾

OMG! I will treasure this video forever! 🥲 This is the most interactive my #deaf mom with #dementia has been in a long time!

I was shocked that she patted my back ! Everything in this video has been something she hasn’t done in such a long time. She seemed to understand most of what I was saying.

She’s lost mostly all of her communication due to dementia but today it didn’t seem like it. BLESSINGS!!! Omg! Dementia can deliver so many losses, but this day is a WIN!🏆

July was a tough month. 3️⃣ ER visits in two weeks.
My number one priority is making her feel safe and providing her comfort. Going to the ER is very difficult on anyone, especially if you have dementia.
We’re taking good care of her.

7/4/26:

It doesn’t happen often, but whenever I see a black doctor I feel so relieved!

My deaf mom with dementia has been admitted to the hospital this 4th of July. She went unconscious in her dementia care facility last night.

She’s had numerous ER visits for going unconscious and they can never figure out why.

This was our first time having a black woman ER doctor and she is the first doctor to admit her overnight for more extensive testing, rather than just send us home.

Mom is doing well and will most likely be released today, and hopefully with some answers.
