๐ŸŒถ๏ธโ€™s in Bristol. Went to do a repeat of the Alpkit Sonder Winter Gravel series route from last year, it was biblically wet last time out so thought we would give it a go in the dry. Bloody good route and a great squad out ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ taken in Bristol, United Kingdom by @instagumm

The big boys rode up Alp D'Huez today...

5 days ago I rode L'Etape du Tour on the route of tomorrow's frankly insane Queen Stage of this year's Tour de France.

I lost count of how many 10pm, freezing garage rides it took to get 'ready'. But I'm grateful for every single one now ๐Ÿ˜….

Col du la Croix de Fer (24km @ 5.2%) 2,067m โฌ†๏ธ
~ favourite climb โค๏ธ pure vibes, friendly people, views for dayyyys & little flowy descents to break it up. Great, long descent on the other side, though there were some crashes ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ

Col du Teฬlegraphe (11.9km @ 7.1%) 1,566m โฌ†๏ธ
~ after the best feed station (local band playing Bella Ciao as we rolled in ๐Ÿ˜) this felt very much like something to just get over so that we could be on the Galibier. Riders were noticeably quieter. I felt ok, but was aware we were approaching 90km in, and managing my effort as much as possible. Tree lined, we spent our time riding between the shade.

Col du Galibier (17.7km @ 6.9%) 2,642m โฌ†๏ธ
~ the big one ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ the reason I was there. Got the best send off from the locals. Honestly the crowds all day were just mind-blowing ๐Ÿฅน. The top half is just an 'other worldly' experience. Loved the challenge of this & was so grateful for the training. Still managing effort but on reflection, this is probably where I started to fall behind on fuelling. More on that shortly...๐Ÿ˜…โ˜ ๏ธ The long descent is something I'll never forget. There are few feelings like railing corners at (modest) speed on a road bike ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ

Col de Sarenne (12,8km @ 7.3%)
~ the one that sorted the fit boys & girls from the masochists. The last villages before you climb up into the nature reserve came out in force! Getting sprayed in the face with a hose at point blank was magic ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿผ There was so much goodwill & hype that my legs disappearing came as more of a surprise than it should've ๐Ÿ™ƒ at 6pm, the narrow road resembled a lycra clad death march.

At the top I found I'd worn my cleat out & couldn't clip in ๐Ÿ™ˆ So the final 10km was spent slipping off the pedal, then riding in my sock ๐Ÿคฃ One final pinch me moment, rolling into the resort to cheering crowds and dad at finish line โค๏ธ

L'Etape du Tour 2026

Well... This was everything I could have wished for (and a few things I didn't), dialled up to 11 ๐Ÿ˜…โค๏ธ I feel very lucky - what an absolute privilege it is to be able to do things like this ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ

Day 1: Picked up the van and made our way over to Folkestone (2hr delay, does this thing ever run on time?), but we made it to Troyes in time to chill before bed and the most epic electrical storm I've ever seen!

Day 2: Back on the road and down to Dole to catch the start of Stage 13. This was so cool - arrived at the paddock and immediately saw Fred Wright and Tom Pidcock, they're both such sound guys and went on the have pretty decent days so ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿผ. Dole was beautiful and we had a banging lunch by the canal before heading down to meet and stay with some old friends, west of Maฬ‚con. The French countryside is beautiful but damn is absolutely bone dry ๐Ÿ˜” From day-to-day life, to agriculture, to elite level sport, climate change was a big topic of the weekend ๐Ÿ˜

Day3: Breakfast on the porch and then we headed down to the Alps, after a beautiful drive through the Beaujolais region (thanks to some sage advice) ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ The sheer scale of the mountains always amazes. We'd rather not have spent quite so long crawling up Alp D'Huez (with fans already laying claim to corners in preparation for next week's TdF stage ๐Ÿคฏ), but the event site up in the resort was super cool. Hype nicely bubbling away.

Day4: 'Race Day'. Will probably have to do another post, because this one's already too long. But whoever designed this course for the pros is a mad bastard. And whoever thought of giving us idiots the chance to ride it is a sadist. I'm not sure what that makes me... This was without doubt the most epic thing I've done and 10 hours gives you every opportunity to explore wtf you were thinking ๐Ÿ˜… Proud to have made it as far as I did before cracking on the Sarenne after about 155km and 5000m elevation โ˜ ๏ธ. Crossing the line with only one functional shoe was not part of the plan, but the one footed Tom Pidcock 'superman' over the line gave a few people a laugh ๐Ÿ˜‚

Day5: 950km back from the Alps to Calais, and now hopefully a nice smooth trip back from Folkestone ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿผ taken in French Alps, France by @instagumm

Last weekend, man...๐ŸคŒ๐Ÿผโค๏ธ
What an absolute privilege to be able to do things like this occasionally ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿผ

Yorkshire was absolutely stunning and @struggleevents
put on an absolute epic show (happy 10th birthday ๐ŸŽˆ).
Made some more new friends out on the road and it's always a pleasure to catch @iancruise in person ๐Ÿคœ๐Ÿผ๐Ÿค›๐Ÿผ

After a couple days off, it was another treat to sneak out for a couple of sunset rides on home roads.

The Purpose of Protest: A Testament to Solidarity

In every generation, there comes a moment when silence becomes impossible. When injustice speaks too loudly to be ignored, when grief becomes collective, and when the human instinct to protect, to stand beside, to mourn together, compels us into action.

Protest can be an act of rage, but also one of profound hope. It is the belief that things can be different, that through resistance, through public demonstration, through the brave decision to speak up and show up, change can be made real. Protest is not only about the self. It is, in its purest form, about others. It is about solidarity. taken in Soho, London UK by @instagumm

Wasn't really sure how to upgrade the story to a post, last night. But it needs doing.

@createstudiosdigital 's Sofa Screenings are really cool ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿผ It's a lovely space to watch a film. Go check out what else they have on.

Thank you @swindonpalestinesolidarity for the heads up, otherwise this would've passed me by.

Thank you @palestine36film. A very worthy period piece. It didn't pass me by that the narrative threads are driven forwards by incredible females (roles and actors ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ).

Left feeling a whole range of emotions, but ultimately a clarity. The effects of British arrogance and incompetence echo through the ages. The fact that our leadership follows the same script 100 years down the line, is infuriating.

A final plea (with no bikes or kids, I know this will only get a couple of reactions...). It's never too late to do something. Any small act is better than nothing.

Community and kindness is everything โค๏ธ taken in Create Studios by @instagumm

Happy 40th birthday to the most beautiful and inspirational woman. I am the luckiest person in the world. It's been a perfect treat, spending some rare time together in Mykonos but it doesn't even come close to the celebration you deserve ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿผ We all love you so much and literally couldn't do without you โค๏ธ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿฉท๐Ÿ’›

A love letter to riding bikes, and Yorkshire.
What a bloody privilege it is to have this freedom.
Over ten hours of combined travel time "just for a ride".
Yes and no. To fall a little more in love with riding this incredible bike (and pain ๐Ÿ˜…).
And to fall completely in love with Yorkshire.
'Only' covered 100km of beautiful, brutal Yorkshire. I'll be back for more.
Thank you @struggleevents Borderlands ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ and @dalesbikecentre for hosting โค๏ธ Until next time ๐Ÿคœ๐Ÿผ๐Ÿค›๐Ÿผ
