“Leave Me Alone” comes out swinging with a huge guitar riff, bouncing bass, straight rock drums fighting a drum machine and a cheap synth, before the choruses blow sky-high with Charlie Shapiro’s distorted guitars and the girth rattling baritone sax of Weird Omen’s Fred Rollercoaster. Kim Kix and Greenlandic artist Nive Nielsen scream “Leave me alone with my broken bones” at each other like two lovers in the final round of a very ugly breakup. Underneath the fight is something much bigger: Denmark and Greenland’s damaged relationship, with Kim and Nive taking on their respective countries and turning colonial history, blame and Denmark’s tendency to cast itself as the wounded party into a loud, bitter breakup song.

This is a trailer for Qullaq – a theatrical concert and international collaboration uniting Kalaallisut (Greenlandic) and Scottish traditions. A show we have been developing over the last couple of years with @vali.theatre.lab.

Ancient practices, modern Greenlandic protest songs, contemporary strings, poetic resistance.

This performance was in Riga @balticmusicdays with the incredible @enmtallinn 🎻✨ taken in Riga, Latvia by @instanivegram
