My mom, Patty Hamren, passed away on September 18th, and I’ve spent the days since trying to find words big enough for who she was.

My mom was the kind of person whose door was always open. She never once told me no when I wanted friends over. she wanted our house to be the house, the one everyone felt welcome in. Our pool in the summer was basically the neighborhood pool. She loved fiercely and without conditions, and she made sure everyone around her felt that.

She ran coat drives and food drives because she genuinely couldn’t stand the thought of someone going without, not on her watch.

That was Patty, warm, loud-hearted, the first to show up for anyone who needed it. I will miss her more than words can hold.

Rest easy, Mom. 💛 if anyone has any good Patty stories I would love to hear them. by @insydddious

We really thought hiking would be the perfect way to make ice cream… turns out we just made a bag of soup 😂🍦

Hike-to-Make Ice Cream:
🥛 1 cup half & half
🍬 2 tbsp sugar
🍦 ½ tsp vanilla
🧊 Lots of ice (more ice than we did)
🧂 Lots of rock salt

Mix the half & half, sugar + vanilla in a small sealed bag. Put that bag inside a larger bag with ice + rock salt, seal it up, and shake it while you hike! by @insydddious

7 days. 100 miles. 4.4ft. I picked up a boat I’d never run on a river I’d never seen — three weeks out of guide school. Flipped, swam, got pulled through the rinse cycle at Tappan Falls, and came out the other side knowing how to read water I used to need someone else to read for me.
