It is with great sadness that we confirm the death of Major Paul Wilks, who died in a tragic road traffic incident in Ukraine, away from the front lines, on 12 September. He was 40 years old.

Major Wilks was born on 13 November 1985. He commissioned from Sandhurst on 14 April 2012 joining the Intelligence Corps where he remained throughout his career, successfully promoting to the rank of Major. Major Wilks had deployed on multiple operational tours including to Afghanistan, and was recognised for this service with two Operational Service Medals. He was also recently awarded the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal on 7 May 2026.

Major Wilks was an exceptionally bright and professional officer who embodied the best of the UK military. He was a gifted leader who earned the admiration and respect of all those fortunate enough to have served alongside him. He was a formidable officer, colleague and friend to all those who knew him.

Above all, Major Wilks was a proud family man and was devoted to his wife and two sons.

Our thoughts are with Major Paul Wilks’ family, friends and colleagues at this devastating time.

The inaugural Intelligence Corps Clay Target Championships 2026 was a huge success. 🎯

Hosted at Azimghur Barracks, Colerne, the competition brought together 48 competitors from 12 units to take on 100 English Sporting targets in perfect conditions. By the end of the day, over 4,800 cartridges had been fired and 121 burgers had been enjoyed!

Beyond competition, clay target shooting develops the skills needed to engage moving targets, capabilities that are becoming increasingly important as the British Army prepares to counter the growing threat posed by small unmanned aircraft systems (UAS). We look forward to seeing many of today’s competitors represent the Intelligence Corps at the Army Championships this October.

This week, members of the Intelligence Corps traded the office, computer screens and the pressures of daily work for the hills of Yorkshire, taking on the 24-mile Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge.

The challenge was about far more than the miles covered or the summits reached. It was an opportunity to build trust, strengthen team cohesion, develop resilience, and step away from the demands of the workplace.

One of the unique benefits of Army life is the opportunity to take part in Adventurous Training, where individuals and teams challenge themselves physically, build resilience, and develop the confidence and teamwork that underpin operational success.
