“Rather than confronting the issue, someone who is stonewalling will be totally unresponsive, making evasive maneuver such as tuning out, turning away, acting busy, or engaging in obsessive behaviors. It takes time for the negativity created by the first three horsemen to become overwhelming enough that stonewalling becomes an understandable “out,” but when it does, it frequently becomes a habit. If you are stonewalling and feeling flooded, say that you need a break using whatever signal, word, or phrase you and your partner have decided upon. Let each other know when you’re feeling overwhelmed.

Then, you need to walk away and do something soothing on your own. Stopped protecting him and let him work on himself. It was hard, but I'm happy I did. Seeing the man, husband, and father he could be was worth it. 🎥

**I almost didn’t post the first video.**

115 lbs.

I failed.

Then I dropped the weight to 110 and hit the power clean.

And honestly, I think there’s a marriage lesson in that.

Sometimes we think a healthy marriage means **not failing.**

Not saying the wrong thing.

Not getting frustrated.

Not missing what our spouse needs.

Not having those conversations that go completely sideways.

But that’s not real marriage.

**We’re going to miss.**

The question is: **What do you do after you miss?**

Do you get defensive?

Blame your spouse?

Pretend it didn’t happen?

Or do you take a breath, learn something, make an adjustment…

…and try again?

I didn’t need to pretend I could lift 115.

I needed to recognize where I was, adjust, and keep working.

Marriage is a lot like that.

Sometimes the next rep doesn’t need to be heavier.

It just needs to be **better.**

And tomorrow, you get another rep.
