So I did a thing. And maybe it’s a silly thing.

But it’s so amazing to reflect back on how far I’ve come over the last year. The things I’ve seen, the places I’ve been, the friends I’ve made along the way. I’ve learned many lessons, had many setbacks, and many successes. Through the high highs and the very low lows. All along the way learning more about myself and growing into who I am. I’m still learning and I’m certainly not perfect. But it’s all part of the journey.

So here’s where my feet have been over the last year along that journey. PS. Sorry if you don’t like feet. by @interchelactic

Just a few of the feelings I feel after completing my research this summer. It’s been a rollercoaster, days feel like weeks, weeks feel like days, and two months passed by in the blink of an eye.

I couldn’t have done it without the support from my lab @forestfearlab, my assistant @xeniagera_28 and all the amazing people at @losamigosbiologicalstation and @fieldprojectsorg.

Field work is crazy. You’re so busy with so much happening but also have no distractions. So you think and think and think.

It breaks you down but gives you space to build yourself back up again.

The trees here are what always reminds me to come back to now because how could you walk past these beautiful beasts without doing so?! Some of these trees live for more than a thousand years. And i can only imagine all the sights they have seen.

I feel grateful to walk among them and bask in all their glory.

Little baby Chelsey coming full circle getting ready to run my own project in the Amazon this summer!

10 years since I first worked in Peru and oh how much I’ve learned since then! My brain is getting stronger everyday but there’s still so much to learn! It’s great looking back to remind myself how far I’ve come.

Imposter syndrome is real. But I wouldn’t be here now if it weren’t for someone believing in me! Thanks to @forestfearlab and @neotropicalscience for this opportunity!

Into the forest I go,
To lose my mind and find my soul

7 years later and I’m back for a third time. Feels a bit full circle, working with yunggins teaching them what I was once taught.

So many learning lessons in teaching others.

This forest is so beautiful and has so many lessons to teach of its own, if only we’re willing to listen and learn.

Sea dreaming.

And oh how lucky I feel for the amazing places I’ve been and the beautiful people I’ve met along the way.

It’s World Ocean Day! Think about something you can do today to help protect our oceans! Maybe pick up some trash, maybe choose ocean friendly bathroom and kitchen options, maybe reuse a container instead of throwing it away. Who knows. The ocean is your oyster!

Enjoy the view…

I may not always do the right thing, say the right thing, but those decisions have led me to where I am today. And that’s pretty great.

Last summer, I spent 4 months working in the Oregon Coast range. Full of off-trail scrambling, flooded tents and alone time. It taught me to let go a little more in those times I feel frustrated.

Take a beat, enjoy the view, enjoy the journey, learn some lessons and laugh it off.

On that note, I am looking forward to what adventures and wisdom this summer will bring me! taken in Oregon by @interchelactic

Can we stay here forever?

Wouldn’t that be nice?

Only in our dreams.

But in reality,
change is constant
Nothing is forever

And isn’t that what makes things magical?

Learning to bring awareness to everything I do. Taking notice of the thoughts as they come and go. Riding that emotional wave. Observing. Accepting imperfection.

It’s been a roller coaster year. And I wouldn’t change a thing. So grateful for this life, and the people who I get to share it with. Far and near.

Love letter to (me):

Well hello you (me). I’ve come to the realization that I’ve treated you like poo for so long I can’t even remember when it began. Although I’m sure I can guess why.

I’ve never had respect for you and all those things that you do. You’re capable of carrying me up mountains, across countries, and through storms. You’ve weathered the worst of times and never been thanked for your grace and your glory and perseverance. You were simply expected to do so, even with the constant name calling and hate speech and sheer disregard for your safety.

You are a miracle. And I thank you. For keeping me standing through it all. For better or for worse. It’s time that I apologize for all the damage I have caused, all the scars that I’ve left. How much I appreciate you for allowing me time to finally come to this realization. You deserve all the love and respect and kindness I can give. It is my promise that I will work towards this every day. I may not be perfect but I will progress towards a more open and welcoming environment to allow you not to just survive but to thrive. I will nourish you inside and out. Will you be mine?

Well in true #padiwomensdiveday2021 fashion, here is a funny photo from 2018 WDD.

I can’t express in words how grateful I am for all the strong badass women I’ve met over the last several years who come in kicking stereotypes to the curb. You ladies inspire me, motivate me, and I am blessed to have you in my life.

It’s been a crazy ride through this past year and although I’m not with you and I’m not diving today, I will be reflecting on the endless epic moments I’ve been blessed to share with all of you.
