Intermezzo was supposed to be a three month pop-up. A specialty coffee shop on central — that was 10 years ago. When I found the space, the EDGE district was mostly surface parking lots and Central Avenue was nothing like it is today.

I remember seeing a “for lease” sign in the window while I was eating a cuban sandwich at Bodega. I walked over and knocked on the door, leaving my bike unlocked, as I met the property owner, who just so happened to be in the space at the time. The bike got stolen during that conversation, but I was so excited about the opportunity at 1111 Central, I couldn’t care less.

I kept my job through the first week I opened, working all day and most of the night, since I wasn’t ready to give up a good bartending job if the pop-up didn’t work out. My manager at that job said I was making a mistake when I quit to go all in. Glad I didn’t listen.

I didn’t really know what I was doing but I was driven by passion. I wanted to decide every detail myself, create my own space, and give people the experience I’d been looking for myself.

Ten years in, I still believe the same things. Take care of the people who work here, never serve something I wouldn’t be excited about myself, and everything is in service of how a guest feels when they walk out the door.

I didn’t do it alone - I’m really grateful for our staff, our neighborhood, and everyone who’s supported us along the way

FALL FIG COLD BREW. For the ones not quite ready to put the iced coffee away.

Cold brew meets house spiced fig syrup, finished with a smooth layer of vanilla cold foam. Figgy, lightly spiced, and just sweet enough. Fall flavors without the heat, which feels about right for a Florida October.

Wednesday rundown, here’s what we’ve got going on around here 🍂

We still have a few boxes left of our special collaboration with @lookalivecoffee - we created it for our 10 year anniversary, and the inspiration for the espresso was an Aperol Spritz. It’s delicious, trust us. Available now on the retail wall.

This Friday, DJ Brian Schanck spins from 8:30 to 11:30pm.

Next Tuesday, Jazz Night from 7 to 10pm with Hot Club SRQ. + wine tasting from 6:30-8:30pm.

And in case you missed it, we announced our fall seasonal caffè menu yesterday. As always, daily happy hour runs 5 to 7pm. by @intermezzocoffee

Fall has officially arrived at Intermezzo 🍂🎃 We’re so excited to share this year’s seasonal menu with you.

Pumpkin Spice Forever: espresso, house pumpkin spice syrup, milk, and baking spices, finished with a pumpkin-gingersnap cookie.

S’mores Latte: espresso, graham cracker syrup, and milk under marshmallow cold foam, with toasted marshmallow and shaved chocolate.

Amaretto Cappuccino: espresso, toasted almond syrup, and milk, topped with toasted almond.

A cocktail we love so much, it earned its spot on the new menu. The Strawberry Sour is made with Angel’s Envy bourbon, aperol, ginger, lemon, and fresh strawberries. Bright, juicy, shaken.

A lot of people have been asking us about the custom ashtrays we are dropping at our 10yr Anniversary party this Saturday.

The idea started with the old ceramic Campari ashtrays you still occasionally find in vintage shops, flea markets, and old bars around Italy — simple branded objects that were made for everyday use, but somehow became little pieces of design history.

We worked with @moreliving.ceramics to make our own version for Intermezzo’s 10th anniversary. Each one is hand-thrown, hand-painted, and finished with gold accents. Only 35 were made.

Because there are so few, they’ll be limited to one per person and available only with another purchase. A small batch will be available starting at 8am, with the remainder released during the anniversary party that evening. by @intermezzocoffee
