😍🍾🧀First time in @nekterdeli for an evening tasting and what a way to break my duck!
-
A few hours spent in the company of Patrick Sullivan @patricksullivanwine is always a good time 🥂
-
🌧️🌧️Patrick works exclusively with Chardonnay from Gippsland Australia. A wetland rainforest that looks like Ireland. 1300mm of rain per year will do that!
-
Under cloudy skies and summer temperatures that average around 28° their growing season is so long that harvest sometimes stretches into May (the equivalent of November in the Northern hemisphere🤯🤯🤯)
-
🇦🇺Even more incredible this is just over an hour away from Melbourne. Australia is so diverse and it was a good reminder for me to stop thinking of it as one country! One which I'd love to explore again as I hear they keep most of the best stuff to drink for themselves 😅
-
👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽 Patrick showed four amazing wines, which for me just got better as the flight went on. From the start the Limestone Coast (a steal at £23) things got more detailed as we explored the Camp Hill, Bull Swamp and Ada River growing sites.
-
Ada River was the star among stars for me. A wine that Patrick can only make 2 out of every 3 years, as the fruit doesn't always get ripe enough. Great acid and complexity from fruit grown on North and South facing slopes. Winemaking on the edge
-
A real labour of love from a great guy who's obviously a wine lover. We got to taste all his hard work and focus in the vineyard.
-
✈️Safe travels home Patrick. And thankfully he's leaving some wine for us to enjoy here. Imported into the UK by @liberty_wines taken in Nekter Deli by @interpretingwine

Stop 2 of the day was the @vintagerootsltd annual tasting celebrating 40 years🎊🎊
-
🌧️Only cloud on the day was @meinklang_farm winemaker Werner getting his passport stolen on the way to the tasting🇦🇹😬
-
🇪🇸🥂However David and Adria from @albetinoya stepped in with an amazing Xarel.lo masterclass covering two still wines and a couple of sparklers from 12 and 14. Such great wines!
-
A quick tasting of all the Meinklang wines and a deep dive into a new producer to me @barone_pizzini_1870.
-
Silvano took me through their three properties and we tasted Franciacorta, vermentino and sangiovese. The diversity and quality spoke for itself!
-
😎Loved that @vintagerootsltd showed us their journey through the last 40 years. Here's to the next 40.

What a brilliant start to a busy tasting Monday
-
Watching the UK final of the Copa Jerez @orreryrestaurant
-
As you may remember I was lucky enough to attend the grand final in Jerez back in 2019, so knew this would be a fiercely contested event
-
And if course it was with sommelier and chef pairs from three top restaurants battling it out for a place in the 2027 grand final in Spain @labombebytrivet @lecordonbleulondon @theritzlondon
-
As shown on the cover the team from the Ritz triumphed with their 'truly inspiring pairings that brought spectacle and craft directly to the table'
-
Of course I love that the judges appreciated the storytelling from the winning team. Bringing in the link with Spain and included a Manzanilla and a Moscatel😎👌🏽 @douglasblyde @pierreminotti @zoednd @london.wine_jdtswine
-
Well done team Ritz who head to the grand final in Jerez next summer.

🇸🇰 Don't sleep on Slovakian wine! 🍷
-
Flashback to a great tasting at Slovakian embassy this Monday
-
@thenaughtygrapeuk got things started with a virtual journey around Slovakia with Lucia Dovalova covering all styles of wine. All with local grapes and showing different sides of production.
-
A lot of focus is being placed on growing exports and the experimentation will be interesting to target markets like UK, Japan and Scandinavia.
-
The opportunity is in creating ambassadors and equipping them with the stories and materials to represent this small but mighty country in key markets across the globe.
-
Out in the tasting I visited three producers, starting with Jakub Nichta @vino_nichta trying their gorgeous sekt, Riesling and frankovka modra (blaufrankisch). They are on the lookout for new export markets.
-
Next up was @viajursk where I met Lubos Bogar. More amazing bubbles, this time blanc de blanc. A blend of pinot blanc and pinot gris and the red dunaj. Another producer actively looking to grow their international presence.
-
They are Svaty Jur neighbours of friends @nabosovino
-
Finally I visited @chateau_ruban and read
Was treated to several new varieties by Kristian and Milan. This was a new growing area for me, with its tradition of crossing grape varieties. With names like hossa, Noria and hron.
-
All in all a great experience that shows how far it's possible to travel with a great wine in your hand and the local experts at your side.
-
Thanks to all organisers and participating wineries🇸🇰🍷 taken in Embassy of Slovakia, London by @interpretingwine

Hopefully toasting @weingutfaberkoechl a successful 2026 harvest

*Swipe to the end to meet the winemaker Anna Faber🇦🇹
-
➡️➡️➡️

The wine is a great reflection of the place.
There's a gorgeous balance of complexity and freshness.
-
Very much its own expression of gruner veltliner

Back in June all was quiet at the modern feeling winery

I even got to see the compost and market garden
➡️➡️➡️

Followed by an incredibly tasty lunch prepared by Maria.
-
I felt very lucky to be at the family table with great food, wine and company🥂

Thanks Anna, Gabriel and Maria

Hope 2026 was kind to you and look forward to catching up properly soon🍾 taken in Weingut Faber-Köchl by @interpretingwine

🍷Looking back on an amazing launch event for davidgleavewines new book Barolo and Barbaresco: The Primacy of the Vine - published October 1 by @academieduvinlibrary
-
We were treated to an incredible lineup of wines accompanied by producer story notes in the tasting booklet.
-
Before David gave us more detail on the writing process. (A book he half jokingly said took him 43 years to write) and the region
-
I was happy to hear the changing culture of the region plays a key part in the book too.
-
For me there's something unique about understanding a wine region beyond the map knowledge and getting to understand what often goes unsaid.
-
It sounds like there's a fascinating shared history that still influences modern attitudes
-
Thanks again to @hermione7031 and team for putting on a memorable event!

Update on the app competition. We didn't win (this time) but what a great experience!
-
Going from 53 entries to the 11-strong shortlist with an app I built without any coding knowledge. I'll take that 😎
-
*SPOILER ALERT*
-
The app I built - Cellar Soundbites - already exists as a service. Allowing regions and producers to deliver an in-depth audio experience to users.
-
This example features @breestockmw talking all things @wa_state_wine

🔥What a great start to the week!
-
The Cellar Soundbites app I built in @macalycom has been shortlisted in the great British Build Off
-
We are down to the last 11 and the top 3 will be announced this afternoon🤞🏽
-
This competition invited entrepreneurs to build an app that solves a unique problem using a no code tool!
-
I'm so happy to have built this app as I started to build it over two years ago using a tool called replit. At the time I couldn't get anything worthwhile out of the process and gave up😬
-
😎But last week at ideas fest, I spoke with a fellow entrepreneur who said I should enter. After then speaking with the @team.blue.hub team I was excited to try again with their tool.
-
I found them super engaged in my idea and they really opened up the future possibilities of what I could build. Which are ultimately much bigger and more exciting than I had initially imagined
-
Such a great opportunity and I recommend you trying the tool and building an app or website for fun!

🇺🇾🍷Reflecting on a brilliant Uruguay Top 10 tasting yesterday @uruguay.wine @amanda_wine
-
Everything from the venue to the music and the empanadas set the scene perfectly for the wines
-
I was lucky enough to join Amanda's sold out masterclass which included a tasting of her top 10 wines. The rest of the tasting showcased the top 10 emerging wines and top 10 value wines. 30 wines in total 😍
-
I came away with a fresh appreciation for this country that while being bigger than England has a population of 3 million compared with our 56 million.
-
In Uruguay agriculture is king. Their biggest exports are beef and many crops including soy beans, dairy and thankfully increasing amounts of wine!
-
I was really happy to see that almost half of the 30 wines on show have importers in the UK. Many South American specialists like @vinoslatinos @milestonewinesuk @condor_wines @ucopiawinesltd as well as @enotria.uk
@boutinotwines @liberty_wines carry the wines
-
Lastly a word for the quality. I feel like Uruguayan wines get better each time I try them. And now run the full gamut from red to sparkling.
-
All really tasty with or without food and reflecting Uruguay's mild humid climate that sits on a backdrop of Atlantic coastline, beaches and rolling plains.
-
If you haven't already, download your copy of Amanda's Top 10 Uruguay report at www.southamericawineguide.com/uruguay10
