Hey @mikeherreratd any chance you have any idea when these were taken? It was when cameras used film that had to be developed, lol. I’m guessing 1998, 2000, or 2001?

@mxpx has been my favorite band for 31 years. The first album I owned was Teenage Politics when it dropped back in 1995. Then I ordered their 94 album, Pokinatcha, and Life in General came out in 96… halfway through my senior year of high school. They started in high school, and had just graduated when they recorded Life in General. I guess that’s why their music always hit right where I was at. A lot of the other bands I listened to were older, so some of the deeper stuff (if there was any) didn’t fit, or apply. But with MxPx, Mike would go through stuff, write about it, record songs, and release albums… then I would pick them up. Since he was a couple years ahead of me, I would get the music right when it was most applicable to me. It’s kind of like sending a message in a bottle I guess. Since I started on my life journey slightly after him, it always got me right when I needed it most. With the delay, the timing was always right.

Between 1998 and 2003 I went to hundreds of shows. I don’t know how many times I saw MxPx. I saw them in 98, at the 9:30 club in DC, when they were recording AT THE SHOW. I was up front the whole time, being smashed against the rail, screaming the words to every song and trying not to die! It was amazing! I bought that album back then, and I relive that show every time I listen to it. We did some band stuff down in Florida, and we caught them again in Atlanta on our way back to NC (the second set of pics) that might have been 2001?

It’s hard to describe what shows were like in the late 90’s early 2000’s for people who didn’t go. It was better than a lot of the bigger concerts today. You weren’t just watching, you were part of it. You participated. Shows shaped us. They inspired us. They not only gave us an escape, but took us to a new place… somehow. They changed us.

Of all the performers, all the artists, all the bands… MxPx put on the best shows. The raw energy, the consistency… the fun we always had singing along. They still do. by @interstateninja

HEROES 2026, what can I say? I drew some stuff, talked a lot, signed some things, met some people, reconnected with friends… I didn’t take a lot of pics. I did finally get to walk around just a little on Sunday.

Thanks to everyone who swung by the booth. Thanks to everyone who grabbed some comics, picked up a commission, snagged some OA, or just said hello.

I wasn’t sure if I could do it… lol.. like remember how? It sounds stupid I know. If art were a super power, have you ever wondered what it would be like to lose it? What would life be like without it? If you stopped using it, would it go away? I dunno… it feels good to crank some stuff out again. Maybe it’s never gone. Maybe it just sleeps until you wake it up again.

When I was first asked to do a cover for TMNT 100 back in the day, my first thought was to do all the classic TMNT stuff I love… so I sketched it out… swipe to see the rough. Anyway, my boy Mike said, uh, bro, Shredder is dead. 💀 lol. So I reworked the cover with more of what was going on at that time in the Turtle Universe. Swipe also to see that 100 cover.

Fast forward to NOW. I’m digging through my studio and I find the rough pencils for that abandoned cover and I think, this is fun. Let’s finish it!

So I’ve been playing with inks and paints and markers… and just enjoying the process.

I’ll probably do some more on this before Heroes, just to see where it goes.

Huge Shoutout to @wizjohncomix for the dope review!!! Nicely done! & Thanks for picking up issue 1 and giving it a read!

My goal with Ninjas & Robots was just to make something that I would want to read, something I would have fun drawing, and something that would be cool to look at. I think I checked all those boxes.

It’s rad that people are still finding this book… I’m not done with this story yet.

Found some rough stuff in the studio and decided to flesh it out, just for fun. Inks, watercolor, markers, colored pencils, paint… etc. etc. etc.

When I first met my buddy Chris, @plasticflame , he was doing a lot of screen prints and gig posters. He’s a cool dude, who makes art, plays in a band, draws comics, and has a kid. Anyway, I fell in love with his screen printed posters. His art is sometimes whimsical, and sometimes it’s kind of poetic and sad. I love it. It has feeling and it’s creative and fun. Just like art and music should. Back in the day I snagged this poster from him… swipe to see it… it’s hanging up in my kids room. And one day I decided to do a version of it and I sketched it out. I think it was in the interstateninja/plastic flame press mash up book we did for Heroes however many years ago.

While I was going through stuff, I found the rough, and decided to sit down and bang around on it.
