I love the way I catch you dreaming. To the steadfast movement toward y/our hopes of the potential, in the world, in ourselves, and in what we may offer the world. To the relationships of give and receive as we continue to walk the path forward.

How far forward? Well, maybe just a little further west, at least until we arrive east.

Here’s to our Whanaungatanga, our ever-growing family of community and friends, those we have known and those we have yet to know.

To Manaakitanga, and our investment in the mana of each other and the communities around us.

To Ako, and the never-ending path of discovery.

And to our love, as we step, one step at a time, further into our faith in the possibility of connection, knowledge, and growth.

When I see the deer on the lawn, or at the neighbors in this case, it always reminds me how this land was and is nature’s land first. A lesson long known by the Indigenous people of this land and across the world. Happy Indigenous Day! May you learn hope, curiosity of others and nature on this beautiful day.

The First Step

You have to begin.
Go, do it badly at first
with sweaty palms
and shaking limbs
and gaps in what you know.

You have to start,
and perhaps you won’t feel ready
or like you’ve fully prepared.
Perhaps you’ll feel
too late, too small, too scared.

But it’s okay that you did not appear on Earth
with all the skills and information.
It’s okay that there are things you’ll have to learn.
It’s okay you won’t be perfect overnight
and people might see you try
and that getting where you want will take some time.

Please begin,
because you could enjoy it,
because things just might go right,
because the world craves your light,
because you want to.

Everyone starts somewhere;
you’ll be in excellent company,
You’ll be so proud looking back,
recalling your first step.

that free floating bird
somehow finding herself once again on the open road

taking off for the next unknown adventure
always just as ready to take flight as to find the perfect perch
all too comfortable with being in this very unexpected moment

a river

Finding the more unknown entrances to the park reminds me of sneaking into the exit door of movie theaters as a middle schooler. The thrill is always a little bit more on the less treaded path.
