Caught a glimpse of a murmuration of starlings the other day just for a moment, and it stopped me in my tracks. That strange, silent language of movement… like memory in flight.
I didn’t film it.
I just sat with it.
Then I went to the piano.

Like a butterfly… here for a moment.

My drama teacher, Ian Ricketts, once described life as a butterfly drifting into a quiet cottage, fluttering in from one window for a moment, then leaving through the other window.
“You never know where it came from or where it’s going.But while it was here… it was beautiful.”

Some moments only reveal their meaning when we are finally ready to receive them. This message he shared has stayed with me, and I wanted to share it with you.

When I was a student, Ian shared something unforgettable: life is like a butterfly drifting into a quiet cottage. It flutters around for a moment, then leaves through the other window. You don’t know where it came from or where it’s going, but while it was there, it was beautiful.

I loved the image and the metaphor.
This piece isn’t about the butterfly or the story itself, it’s about the time it took for me to understand. The beauty of the butterfly’s flight only revealed itself when I was ready.
This story has stayed with me all my life. Ian inspired us to embrace life fully, feel deeply, and notice the moments of beauty around us. This piece is for him. Thank you Ian

This began as me playing around, trying to write a medieval movie trailer …something in the spirit of Braveheart, Robin Hood, Legends of the Fall…
I had an image in my head:
A knight, still in armour, carrying the king’s own daughter as they ride on a black horse along a storm-beaten cliffside. Waves crashing below.
A castle and a kingdom behind them, but before them, a life chosen by love, not law. A future no king could command.

This is where duty ends and love begins to defy.

Flying back in the night after work across the pond…the cabin was dark and still…most people asleep, a few faces lit silver by the flicker of films.
I couldn’t sleep, so I opened the shutter and saw this endless turquoise glow, the edge of the world curving beneath me, and above, the universe that made us from stardust.
For a moment, I was suspended between both. There was a peace that came over me… and this was created.

Dance of the Dragonfly was born from a simple, perfect day.
I was with my brother by the River Dee, a bank holiday weekend. We had lunch at a pub on the river, my cocker spaniel was diving into the water after the ball, and a man was fishing nearby. Then a dragonfly appeared…floating, dancing, shimmering above the river.

It reminded me how special it feels to notice the extraordinary beauty within the ordinary.
This piece is for that moment.

There are lives on this earth so different from ours… and yet somehow, in some quiet way, they mirror us.

I watched a documentary the other day on the life of an Albatross..a bird that spends most of its years at sea, returning only to land to nest.

Something about that stayed with me.This piece became a reflection on the journey… the solitude… and the quiet grace that carries us through both.

The left hand moves in waves.
The right hand barely speaks..it just glides with the waves.

A shout out to @pianodiary (Tiko László), whose gentle encouragement to explore a flowing left-hand pattern set something in motion..and this piece followed.
