It looks like a mistake in engineering… but it’s not.
The K-MAX helicopter runs two intermeshing rotors that seem like they should collide every second. In reality, they’re precisely phase-locked through a gearbox that controls each blade’s pitch in real time.
No randomness. No chance.
Why build something this complex? Because it removes the tail rotor completely. And that one change means almost every bit of engine power goes straight into lifting, not fighting itself.
