RIP Chegg. AI just killed a $14 billion company. Chegg went from a pandemic-era monster to getting absolutely crushed in real time. At its peak, Chegg was worth over $14B. Students were paying monthly for homework help, textbook rentals, and study tools. Then OpenAI dropped ChatGPTā€¦ and everything changed. Why pay for Chegg when you can ask AI the same question instantly, cheaper, and sometimes better? This is what disruption actually looks like. One product didnā€™t just competeā€¦ it replaced the entire use case. Cheggā€™s traffic dropped, subscribers fell off, and their stock got smoked. The lesson: if your business is built on information, you are either USING AIā€¦ or youā€™re getting replaced by it. #investing #stocks #ai #business #money by @investedtv

A robot just ran 100 meters faster than Usain Bolt ever has. šŸ¤– The second World Humanoid Robot Games opened in Beijing on Saturday with 666 teams and 2,056 robots from 16 countries competing across 51 events through August 26. Honorā€™s humanoid, nicknamed Lightning, clocked 9.32 seconds in a pre-games test run, beating Boltā€™s 9.58-second world record from 2009. Last yearā€™s inaugural games drew 280 teams and a winning 100-meter time of 21.50 seconds, so the field quadrupled and the speed more than doubled in twelve months. Twenty-one of the 51 events are scenario-based, dropping robots into factories, hotels, hospitals and retail floors where Beijing expects the commercial money to show up. The track races get the highlight reels, but the screw-tightening and shelf-stocking events are the actual product roadmap. China builds most of the worldā€™s humanoid robots, and the US just banned imports of foreign-made ones on national security grounds. #Robotics #China #Humanoids #Automation #Invested by @investedtv
In 2023, Mat Ishbia bought the Phoenix Suns for a record $4 billion without selling a single share of his company. šŸ€ He pledged 805 million shares of UWM, his mortgage business, as collateral on two JPMorgan loans. That is more than half the companyā€™s outstanding stock. It let him keep roughly 90% voting control and avoid triggering a capital gains bill. The catch with borrowing against stock is that the collateral has to hold its value. UWM is down about 70% since the pledge. What was $4.6 billion in collateral is now worth closer to $800M - $1.15 billion. The company just posted a $603 million loss on an interest rate position, took a $2.05 billion rescue from Oaktree at a 10% annual cost, and suspended the dividend that had funneled billions to the Ishbia family. If the stock keeps sliding, the loan-to-value ratio breaks and the bank asks for more collateral. That is a margin call. If a borrower canā€™t post enough, the lender can sell the pledged shares, which pushes the stock lower and triggers the next call. To be clear, Ishbia is not there yet, and there are real reasons he may never get there. But this is the mechanism people are watching, and it is worth understanding regardless of how this one ends. Mark Walter sold the Lakers after less than a year, and the timing has people asking questions. šŸ‘€ The team is going to Josh Kushner and Bob Iger at a record $12.5 billion valuation, per ESPN. Walter bought controlling interest from the Buss family last year at roughly $10 billion, a deal the NBA did not approve until October 2025, which means he cleared a $2.5 billion gain in under a calendar year. That number lands in the middle of a franchise value boom. The Suns went for $4 billion in 2023, the Jazz for $1.66 billion in 2020, and the Clippers for $2 billion back in 2014. Global brand power, a prime media market, and the anticipated haul from the leagueā€™s next media rights cycle are all baked into what the Lakers just fetched. Here is the part getting less attention. Walter is the subject of federal and SEC investigations into his broader empire, with prosecutors examining whether two insurers he controls properly disclosed billions in loans that flowed back to his own businesses. After receiving subpoenas, Delaware Life reportedly corrected its related party investment figure from $1.4 billion to $17 billion. His companies deny wrongdoing, nobody involved has tied the probe to the sale, and he is keeping the Dodgers. The buyers bring two very different playbooks. Kushner founded Thrive Capital, co-founded Oscar Health, holds a minority stake in the Heat that he will need to sell, and recently pursued a stake in FIFAā€™s World Cup operations before that deal collapsed. Iger ran Disney across two stints totaling about 20 years, brought in Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm and Fox, launched Disney+, and controls Angel City FC alongside his wife Willow Bay. The two already work together after Iger joined Thrive earlier this year. Jerry Buss paid $67.5 million for this franchise in 1979. The Board of Governors still has to sign off, and the new group is betting the next media rights cycle makes $12.5 billion look conservative. #Lakers #NBA #BobIger #JoshKushner #SportsBusiness by @investedtv
Carnivalā€™s first ship ran aground on its maiden voyage in 1972. Ted Arison launched the company that year on a bet that ordinary Americans would pay for a vacation at sea, and the industry treated it as a joke. His son Micky dropped out of the University of Miami, took an entry-level job in the sales department, and was running the whole thing by 1979 at age 30. Carnival now operates roughly 90 ships across nine brands including Princess, Holland America, and Cunard, and carried more than 13.5 million passengers last year. Fiscal 2025 revenue hit a record $26.6 billion with operating income of $4.5 billion, up 25 percent. The family also paid a $32.5 million expansion fee for the Miami Heat in 1988. Micky took over as managing general partner in 1995, brought in Pat Riley the same year, and the franchise has won three titles since. Forbes now values the Heat at $5.7 billion, roughly 175 times the original buy-in, which makes a basketball team the best-performing asset in the portfolio. The original pitch was a vacation a working family could finally afford. Fifty-four years later ticket prices are setting records alongside the profits, and Micky is worth somewhere north of $8.6 billion. #Carnival #MiamiHeat #MickyArison #Investing #Wealth by @investedtv
The 76ers are paying LeBron James roughly $4 million a year. Philadelphia is getting up to $430 million back. His first season with the 76ers is projected to generate $250 million to $430 million in regional economic activity, per The Boyd Company. That covers everything from ticket sales and tourism to bar tabs and merch within the Philly metro. For context, the midpoint of that range is larger than the annual revenue of most publicly traded small caps. One 41-year-old athlete moving cities carries the economic weight of an entire company relocating its headquarters. The lesson for anyone tracking where money flows: superstars function as their own economies, and cities are the shareholders. #LeBron #Sixers #SportsBusiness #Economics #Invested by @investedtv
Notre Dameā€™s 2022 quarterback room is now a Wall Street pipeline. Tyler Buchner and Drew Pyne, who split starts under center for the Irish that season, both began investment banking analyst stints this month. Buchner landed in Goldman Sachsā€™ TMT group and Pyne is at Moelis. Analyst seats at a bulge bracket tech group and a top independent advisory shop draw thousands of applicants from target schools who spend two years networking for them. The traits that get you recruited to run a Power Five offense translate cleanly to a job built on pressure, preparation, and 90-hour weeks. The athletic career ending early has always been the risk, but the resumĆ© it builds carries further than most people assume. #InvestmentBanking #GoldmanSachs #NotreDame #Finance #Invested by @investedtv
Sean Strickland just gave better personal finance advice than most people get from an actual advisor, and he did it in a tweet that opened with ā€œlisten little mother f******.ā€ The former UFC middleweight champ laid out the whole framework in five lines: build a high-yield savings account with three months of living expenses, open a Fidelity brokerage, put it in FXAIX or another solid index fund, and invest every dollar beyond the cushion. FXAIX tracks the S&P 500 at a rock-bottom fee, and its averaged return over the last ten years landed around 13.4%, which is exactly the kind of boring, buy-and-hold vehicle that quietly builds wealth over decades. The genius part is the mechanic at the end: when life forces you to draw from the emergency fund, you pause investing, refill the cushion first, then resume. That single rule is what separates people who stay invested through a rough patch from people who panic-sell at the bottom. The retail investing world spends millions on courses and newsletters teaching this exact system, and a guy who fights people for a living just gave it away for free with more conviction than any suit ever has. #SeanStrickland #IndexFunds #PersonalFinance #FXAIX #Invested by @investedtv
Tristan Thompson turned $25,000 into a seven-figure payday with a soda betšŸ„¤ The NBA champion revealed on Club Shay Shay that he made a $25,000 seed investment in Poppi, the prebiotic soda brand, in its early days. PepsiCo acquired Poppi for a reported $1.95 billion in 2025, turning early backers into big winners. Thatā€™s at least a 40x return on a single check, the kind of outcome venture investors chase across entire portfolios. Thompson has said his biggest financial regrets are the deals he passed on, not the ones he took. A four-year NBA rookie contract paid him $16.8 million. One soda check might end up being the smartest money he ever spent. #tristanthompson #poppi #investing #nba #invested by @investedtv
A vendor took the literal trash from Taylor Swift and Travis Kelceā€™s wedding, compressed it into cubes, and listed it for sale, per New York Daily. The entire run sold out within 24 hours. Nobody bought a thing they can use. They bought proximity to two names, packaged as garbage and priced as a collectible. This is what late stage capitalism looks like, where the product is irrelevant and the only thing with value left is celebrity residue, even when that residue is literally waste. by @investedtv
