A pretty bold thing to say to someone with nearly 1M followers, but I’m not gonna go there 🤓
I’ll just say this: I know my work is not for everyone, and my content is definitely not optimal for speed-based social media platforms. It’s a paradox to me that there are so many people who do appreciate it. It tells me that perhaps many of us need to slow down, maybe more than we realise. We need to take our time with stuff that fulfills us, but we lack the courage and confidence that slowing down is the right thing to do, when the rest of the world rushes by.

The ugly duckling - there’s no way around it.
Every artwork I’ve ever made has gone through the long and exasperating ‘ugly phase’, when I doubted that I’d ever be able to ‘fix’ it, and felt like throwing it out the window. It is scary and it makes you question everything you know.
But if you’re serious about your art, you will persevere. And although the unsettling feelings are difficult to avoid, there are ways to at least help you trust that it will all be worthwhile. One of them is planning. Another one is knowing why you’re doing this.
In my upcoming course on drawing flowers with ink, I’ll help you understand and apply both of these, so that you can overcome your fear of this rollercoaster of emotions, and go for the crazy art ride, again, and again, and again 😋✨

I’m so pleased to announce my second book, An English Pilgrim, which will be published by @franceslincolnpub in April next year. As with my first book, Forgotten Churches, I’m thrilled to be collaborating with the incredibly talented @ioanapioaru who has completed a whole series of beautiful illustrations to bring life to every chapter of the book. As many of you will know, my pilgrimages have often taken me to landscapes and places of deep historical interest. However, as I’ve journeyed to such places I’ve often found myself meeting fellow pilgrims and discussing the solace and contemplation afforded by pilgrimage practices. As such, An English Pilgrim will be a deeply personal account of some of my pilgrimage journeys, while covering the history and the present of pilgrim places. Tomorrow is the last day of my print sale and apart from one last reminder to visit the shop there’s one other thing i want to add:
I almost didn’t want to release this artwork because I didn’t see why anyone would want it, since it is so personal. Usually I create work that, at least on a symbolic level, has a universal meaning that many people can relate to. But this drawing was made purely for myself, and I am both awestruck and incredibly grateful to find that there are people out there who still resonated with it or found it beautiful and decided to bring it to their homes.
This, to me, is so wonderful and so encouraging. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! 🫶

I can’t wait to share the full picture and story with you later this week!
What started as a ‘no stakes’ drawing that I was making purely for myself, ended up being one of the most meaningful pieces I’ve ever drawn.
‘Summer’s End’ is meaningful from a personal perspective, but I think once you hear about it, many of you will relate.
