Site Four Participating Gallery @ion_gallerykc Invites Artists: ✨Johnny McCaffery, Johanna Brock✨

About Site Four:🛹🛹🛹
Reigniting the Site Series, this is a one-day outdoor exhibition and collaboration between independent, artist-run galleries and alternative venues in Kansas City that will take place at the Harrison Street DIY Skate Park 10/18/2026. Artists are invited to activate the Columbus Park skatepark, while also creating a network between spaces. As an important community-building initiative and creative achievement, this project also aims to celebrate the park before it's impending demolition and serve as a fundraiser in order for the skatepark to be built again.

✨About Johnny McCaffery @jahnknee ✨

Johnny McCaffrey is a woodworker and sculptural artist from Olympia, Washington now living in Kansas City, Missouri where he grew up. Johnny earned his BFA in Craft and Fine Art from Evergreen State College in Olympia, WA in 2021, attended Penland School of Craft in 2023 for a fall concentration in woodworking, and completed a yearlong Artist Residency at the Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts in Gatlinburg, TN in 2025.

✨About Johanna Brock✨

Johanna Brock (pronouns she/they) is a multi-instrumentalist and composer based in Kansas City. A music educator and trained orchestral violist, Brock creates other-worldly sonic landscapes that blend genres, reflecting her love of classical music, free jazz, synthesizers, field recordings, and queer nightlife. At Site 4, Brock is excited to share a sonic collage of down tempo beats, field recordings, viola flutters, and synthesizer drones that evoke the emotional landscape of humans interacting with a skate park. Brock’s ultimate goal is to create immersive environments wherein she can play at the interstices of movement, music, and language by @ion_gallerykc

Elise Gagliardi, @elise_gagliardi, is an artist who enacts rituals of memorial and cleansing across performance, photography, film, and installation. A third-generation florist, Gagliardi lives this matrilineal legacy by carefully curating altars in her studio of flowers, fruits, fabric, oil, water, and her body. Rich with symbolic objects and acts, they are documented as films and photographs, preserving time through the lens of her camera. The process emphasizes Gagliardi’s interest in time, the cycles of life and the myth of eternal return—the simultaneously slow and fast passage of time we experience throughout our lives.

Gagliardi’s performance and installation work is meant to engage the viewers in the space with reflective tropes such as labyrinths, art in the round, and empty space for movement guided by sound and video projections. She invites her audience to remember that, like flowers, life is fragile; therefore, it is important to live with care and intention. Yet, there is also a hopeful acknowledgment of nature’s regenerative power, which cycles through death and rebirth. The fleeting beauty of the natural world mirrors our own impermanence while also symbolizing resilience, beauty, and opulence.

“Exhibit C” Opens this Friday 9/4 a group exhibit with works by Jàn Pilarčik @janp_photography.
Jàn is a Slovak artist currently based in Barcelona. This series “Ange.” are black and white photos taken of century old statuary angels living throughout Barcelona. Pilarčik is a perfectionist in his craft and composition. He seeks quiet moments, beauty, and simplicity. His photos create an intimate encounter for us as if we could reach out and touch the warm stone. These angels bring a life of their own as we are invited into their gaze.

We hope you can come by!

Elise Gagliardi and Mark Allen present TWO CLOSING RECEPTIONS! 🎨✨

Join us Saturday, August 22 from 3–6 PM at Precious Frivolities, 1712 Main St., as we celebrate two exhibitions and two galleries under one roof.

Precious Frivolities is home to both ION Gallery and Simulation Gallery, two independent gallery projects presenting exhibitions within the larger Precious Frivolities space. This Saturday, both galleries come together for a shared exhibtion closing celebration.

ION Gallery, founded and directed by Elise Gagliardi, presents Exhibit B. GRRRRRRRR: Little Dog, Big Bite, the second in a three-part series of pop-up exhibitions inside Precious Frivolities. Featuring Midwestern artists Calder Kamin, Alyssa Underwood, and Melissa Wolf, the exhibition was chosen to remain on view throughout the World Cup as a playful, colorful, and engaging presentation highlighting three artists from the Midwest. Please contact Elise/ION Gallery if you’re interested in receiving the exhibition image and price list.

Just steps away, Simulation Gallery, also located within Precious Frivolities, presents Mark Allen’s solo exhibition, MYTHOS. The exhibition brings together photography, screenprints, and even a painted, image-adhered treadmill installation, with works originating from Mark’s MFA thesis at Pratt Institute, where he recently graduated with his MFA in Photography. Please contact Mark Allen if you’re interested in receiving a price list. We’ll also be celebrating Mark’s recent birthday—with cake, of course! 🎂

There’s another reason to celebrate: Elise is a recent MFA graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago! 🎓🥂 Congratulations, Elise!
