Today, the Brothers of lota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc. proudly celebrates the birthday of our Most Honorable Founder Lonnie Spruill, Jr!

As we celebrate his life and legacy, we also take this opportunity to share a piece of our Fraternity's history.

In the photograph, Most Honorable Founder Spruill is displaying our Fraternity's official hand sign. However, due to his medical condition, arthritis, the positioning of his fingers appears slightly different. Over time, some Brothers began replicating this appearance, leading to what some recognize as the unofficial "63 hand sign."

While this gesture may have originated from a place of love and admiration, Most Honorable Founder Spruill has personally requested that Brothers refrain from imitating this variation out of respect for his medical condition.

This serves as a reminder that honoring our Founders goes beyond celebrating their contributions. It also means respecting their wishes, preserving our history, and upholding the traditions they established.

Today, we celebrate not only the birthday of Most Honorable Founder Lonnie Spruill, Jr., but also the lasting impact he continues to have on our beloved Brotherhood.

OW-OW!
