Well, today is the day. The first anniversary of the day I almost died (the first time). Exactly 12 months since my heart attack. What a powerful, profound life-changing year this has been.

The person that I was completely blew up into a million pieces a year ago. I had to wilfully & deliberately rebuild — changing my lifestyle completely. I quit smoking, changed my diet, lost 20kg & made exercise & wellbeing the centre of my world.

The real work of recovery was beyond the physical — it was finally dealing with my mental health. Working hard with my therapist on dealing with anxiety & coping with trauma. Learning new ways to deal with stress & pressure. Beginning a practice of mindfulness & meditation.

Sure, it shouldn’t have taken almost dying to do all these things, but it did. The most intense experience of my life has resulted in the best version of me I’ve ever been. I am forever changed. Caroline Polachek’s Desire, I Want To Turn Into You is easily my fave record of the year so far. I am *obsessed* with it tbh. It’s a masterpiece on every level.

Since facing death a few times, I’ve found myself really embracing my love of pop music. There’s so much joy to be found in pure POP. Yes, even the sad bangers. Hell, especially the sad bangers.

This afternoon was all about staring at the sky, drinking coffee & listening to The War On Drugs. Some days it's easier to escape the gravity than others. But that’s Recovery right?

And let's be honest, lately there has been SO much gravity. But it's starting to feel like there are more beginnings than endings these days. Clear air. Blue skies. We gonna make it y'all.
