APPRECIATION POST FOR OUR FOUNDER AND PRESIDENT!!

Meet PAUL MOOTZ — a true pioneer of percussion in Luxembourg!

“Born in Luxembourg in 1952, Paul Mootz began his musical studies at the Luxembourg Conservatory at just 10 years old. Over the years, he earned First Prizes in solfège, piano, harmony, chamber music and percussion, studying percussion with Jean Gieres.
His talent soon took him to Paris, where in 1972 he joined the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris in the class of renowned percussionist Jacques Délécluse. In 1974, he was awarded the First Prize in Percussion.
His career continued on the international stage: in 1982, he took part in the Geneva International Competition, followed in 1984 by a Meisterdiplom from the Musikhochschule Würzburg, where he studied with Siegfried Fink.
For ten years, Paul Mootz was Principal Percussionist of the RTL Symphony Orchestra. He was appointed professor at the Luxembourg Conservatory in 1984 and also taught at the Conservatory of Esch-sur-Alzette.

In 1982, he founded Luxembourg Percussion — an ensemble that went on to achieve great success, performing across Europe and Australia.

A composer and arranger as well as a performer and educator, Paul Mootz has written numerous works, many specifically for his students and for Luxembourg Percussion.

From a young percussion student in Luxembourg to an internationally recognised musician, Paul Mootz has played a major role in shaping percussion in Luxembourg.”

This text is taken from the original 1989 competition booklet. That was the very first edition ever of the @ipcl.percussion.competition and it was for percussion quartet.

In the Jury next to Paul Mootz in 1989 were:

Keiko Nakamura (Japan)
Jacques Delécluse (France)
Siegfried Fink (Germany)
and
Dobri Paliev (Bulgaria) by @ipcl.percussion.competition
