Ipek. Pronounced like “kepi” backwards.

Ipek means “silk” in Turkish. A fabric that looks delicate but is surprisingly strong, with a lot more history behind it than meets the eye. I’ve always liked that contrast (and maybe there’s a bit of me in that analogy, too).

I grew up surrounded by the work I now get to share with you: a rather unlikely cocktail of data and alchemy, math and intuition, the rational and the emotional.

A little math, a little magic, and a lot of curiosity about what makes us who we are.

I’m definitely not the first, and I won’t be the last.

Here’s something I’ve noticed in my work: Over 75% of the female founders I work with have started a new company, taken on a new role, or launched a new product while becoming mothers or welcoming another child into their families.

And I find that fascinating🤯

Because while we often assume (or sometimes rightfully choose) that motherhood means slowing down professionally, it can also coincide with a period of incredible growth.

And that growth can look different for everyone….whether it’s starting a new company, launching something new, or stepping into an entirely different life chapter.

Almost every time, we don’t know it yet, but that next chapter turns out to be even better than the one before.

It’s the season of birthing a new life, in multiple ways❤️

We love putting things in a box. I do it too. Which is why the question I get most is “so… is it numerology?”

Tracy Anderson could have said “it’s Pilates.” Bezos could have said “it’s a bookstore.” They didn’t, and that’s the whole reason we know their names.

It’s hard not to think about the Cornell case, especially as a parent. Instead of adding to the commentary, I’ve been doing what I like to do most: focusing on what I can do daily that is practical and makes a difference.

For me, that starts at home, with how well I actually know my kids. And myself.

So hearing Dr. Shefali speak last week about her two new books got me all kinds of introspective, especially Raising Conscious Sons, which, as a mom of two boys, I’m reading with a pen in hand. She has been full of wisdom for decades. These are a few of her approaches that speak to me most, and that I practice every day, in my own parenting and in my work with The Born Method™.

In The Born Method, I decode these patterns so parents can understand their children as who they are. Not the child in our heads. The one in front of us.
