The Battle of Adwa is a 2026 IPPY Bronze Medalist! 🥉

Author Alem Aweke Embiale brings a powerful chapter of African and world history to young readers, with the book recognized in the Multicultural Non-Fiction – Juvenile/Young Adult category.

At the heart of The Battle of Adwa is Ethiopia's historic 1896 victory over Italy. Through vibrant storytelling and illustrations, readers are introduced to Emperor Menelik II, Empress Taytu, and the diverse Ethiopian people who came together to defend their country’s independence.

More than a story about a battle, the book highlights courage, resilience, unity, and pride in one's identity while bringing Ethiopia's history and cultural heritage to life.

Congratulations, Alem! We’re excited to celebrate The Battle of Adwa among our 2026 IPPY Medalists. by @ippyawards

There was a time when writing a #childrensbook was simply a dream of mine.

I dreamed of creating stories that children might hold in their hands, read with someone they love, and maybe even learn something they’d carry with them forever.

And then, somehow, that dream became real.

Today, I have the incredible honour of calling The Road to You an IPPY Gold Medal–winning book. 🥹🏅

This book holds a piece of my heart in every page. It was written to offer hope to so many mothers on their road to motherhood … and perhaps serve one day as a reminder to those children of the incredible strength it took to bring them into this world.

To see something that once existed only as an idea, a little dream I wasn’t quite sure would ever happen, receive this kind of recognition is incredibly humbling.

So grateful for this one. For the journey. For every person who has supported my books. And for the reminder to keep making room for the dreams that quietly live in our hearts. 🤍☁️

Meet Marty Ross-Dolen, Bronze Medal winner in the 2026 IPPY Awards! 🥉

Marty has been an author for 16 years, and this year, her memoir, Always There, Always Gone: A Daughter's Search for Truth, earned Bronze in the Autobiography/Memoir II (Coming of Age/Family Legacy) category.

The recognition is still brand new for Marty, but she’s excited to see where it may lead. “I just learned that I received the award yesterday, but I imagine it will make a significant impact on the future of my book.”

She’s already starting to build on the momentum by sharing her IPPY win on Facebook and Instagram and adding the recognition to her website.

For other independent authors wondering whether they should put their work forward for an award, Marty encourages them to go for it. “Take advantage of the opportunity to submit your book for book awards. It's a fun experience, and you just might win! Being recognized as an author in the world of independent book publishing is a true honor.”

Congratulations, Marty! We can't wait to see what you accomplish next. by @ippyawards

How Deep Is the Wound? is a 2026 IPPY Bronze Medalist! 🥉

Author Antonieta Contreras has spent years teaching the ideas behind her book, so seeing that work recognized in the Psychology/Mental Health category has been especially meaningful.

“Publishing what I've been teaching for years and being recognized by it has really made my life more whole and my days more amazing,” she shared.

At the heart of How Deep Is the Wound? is an idea Antonieta believes can change the way people understand what they’re going through: emotional struggles, wounds, injuries, and trauma aren’t necessarily the same thing.

“Distinguishing between emotional struggles, wounds, injuries, and trauma isn't just a clinical exercise — it's a framework that changes how people understand their own suffering.”

Now, the IPPY recognition is helping her bring that message to even more people. Antonieta is sharing the award through her Psychology Today platform and social media, as well as using it in outreach to clinicians and educators who may incorporate the book into training. She’s also developing a Spanish-language edition and hopes the recognition will help open doors with publishers and professional audiences in Spain and Latin America.

And for other independent authors wondering whether they should put their own work forward for an award, Antonieta encourages them not to wait until their book feels “established enough.”

“Write the book that only you can write, then trust that there are readers and reviewers who will recognize that.”

Congratulations, Antonieta! We’re proud to recognize How Deep Is the Wound? among our 2026 IPPY medalists. 🏅 by @ippyawards
