A big thank you to @emilyhowesbooks for signing copies of her books The Painter's Daughters and Mrs Dickens at the @suffolkbookleague event last week.

Both novels have been returned today by members who took them along to the talk - what a lovely thing for both them and Emily to have done! We're very pleased the event was a sell out and went so well.

There are not currently any reservations for Mrs Dickens, but that is sure to change so get in quick if you'd like to be first in the queue! by @ipswichinstitute

Come along next Tuesday (20th October) and enjoy a Stroll with A Hundred Year Old Guide - and our very own David Stainer!

Inspired by a wonderful guidebook that was donated to the Institute some time ago, David will walk you through a visitor's experiences in Ipswich in the early 1900s, finishing at The Chart Room for tea and cake.

Places cost £12 and all are welcome - Institute members and non-members alike. Book in person in the library, or online via our website: https://tinyurl.com/teawalks by @ipswichinstitute

It must be October, as the pumpkins have returned! Knitted by Jo, we love our little nod to the season - and it seems lots of you do too 😍

Arts and crafts are very popular with many of our members and we even have a Craft and Chat members interest group that meets on the first and third Wednesday of the month in Page's Café.

All members are welcome, so why not pop along with your latest project and enjoy a relaxing morning of making? The group will be getting together next week (Weds 21st October) and then again on Weds 4th November. by @ipswichinstitute

Conversation is important to us at the Institute and we are happy to hear from our members; asking a question, making a suggestion, or simply passing the time of day. And looking at our rather old suggestion book, this is nothing new!

Today, although we do still have a folder to note book requests, we are rather less formal and members are more likely to chat with the team in person, or send us an email.

Just this week we received a suggestion for a new day trip, which we now hope to include in the spring programme, so it goes to show it is always worth mentioning an idea! by @ipswichinstitute

We are down to our last few spaces for next week's trip to @theredhousealdeburgh and @snapemaltings.

Members and friends will enjoy a guided tour at each location, the ideal way to discover more about the lives of Benjamin Britten and Peter Pears, and their love of art, music and nature.

There will also be free time to explore Snape Maltings, with its converted Victorian buildings, independent shops, galleries and restaurants.

To join us on the trip, pop into the library to speak to one of the team, or book online via our website: https://tinyurl.com/Institute-Day-Trips by @ipswichinstitute

What a lovely buzz there was in the library - and around town - this weekend!

A huge well done to all of the @ipswichbookfestival team, and a big thank you to all the local authors and visitors who spent time with us over the weekend. We were very happy to be part of the festival and to meet so many lovely new people.

A few more photos from the library yesterday afternoon, and photo credit to @smellywillis for the external library photo... we hope you don't mind us reusing! by @ipswichinstitute
