Last month @hectorpardoe completed his 47.5km swim from the end to end of Lake Como, the fastest recorded and only the second person in history to have ever accomplished it.

@angusung and I went out to Italy to capture his achievement, as well as every high and low, and now I’m currently in the process of putting it together as a documentary chronicling Hector’s swim and what makes someone want to attempt such a feat of endurance.

I’m incredibly excited to share more from this story in due course but in the meantime stay tuned for updates on the film and also some behind the scenes insight into what it takes to capture a 10+ hour long swim in 35 degree heat (a big pizza at the end of it is a good incentive). taken in Lake Como, Italy by @ipwaihen

On Monday 10th August @hectorpardoe will attempt a historic swim of Lake Como in Italy.

On the lead up to heading out there with @angusung to capture his swim I wanted to share some thoughts on one of my favourite shots of Hector so far.

Parys Mountain - a vast and now disused copper mine located in the northeast of Anglesey, thought to have been a site of human mining activity since the Bronze Age. The landscape bears a striking array of colour, featuring a pallet of ochre gradients with random smatterings of deep reds, pinks and purples adorning the rugged terrain. As you look out at the surrounding meadows and rolling hills which stretch outwards in all directions, the place feels like a human-made scar in the surface of the earth.

Despite being shot on Kodak Tri-X 120 film, some of these images are not truly black and white as sometime during the scanning process they were imbued with an interesting mix of dual tone temperatures, which can be observed perhaps most prevalently in the final image. I like the idea that the spirit of the old copper mine still comes through, and with it the varied mixture of materials, tones and textures found within its geology, along with the historical and industrial significance of mankind’s relationship with the land. taken in Mynydd Parys Mountain by @ipwaihen

Some shots from a recent trip to Wales with @angusung. On this day we drove around Anglesey hunting for shots and this was the first place we stopped off, Porth Cwyfan situated in the south-west of the island, a quiet beach leading onto a coastal path which wraps along the cliffside. taken in Anglesey, Wales by @ipwaihen

Portraits of @hectorpardoe shot on Kodak Tri-X 120 film, exhibited at the @lmnlcreates studio during the @stmarysworks_leicester market and open studio day on Sunday 6th June 2026.

A huge thank you to both @freshaire_ltd and @picturesplusuk for their work printing and framing the images, respectively. The final framed prints turned out better than I could have imagined and they did an incredible job to make it happen.

We shot these images in the same studio that they would eventually be displayed in so it was a nice moment of cyclicality to come back into the space to exhibit them where they were initially created.

Thanks to @angusung not only for assisting with this shoot and inviting me in to exhibit the prints but for your continued support, facilitation and ongoing creative conversations which extend well beyond this project.

Portraits of illustrator and author @iamjohnbond on Ilford XP2 during a shoot in January assisting @angusung for @frahmjacket.

It was a pleasure to spend the day at his lovely studio in Worthing, where we discussed important topics like how he decides on colour palettes and measuring the length of the Amazon river in sausage dogs.

John illustrated a beautiful jacket label for Frahm in association with @calmzone and you can check out the film directed by Angus online. by @ipwaihen
