POSTS STORIES REELS
We have just wrapped on our short film, My Little Blue Heart, with the invaluable support of @bbcfilmofficial , @nfts.scotland and the Sean Connery Talent Lab. This project took off in September 2024, sparked by my transformative visit to #Bosnia, where I delved into the history of their genocide. That experience profoundly shaped me and ignited the writing of this story. Now, over a year later, I’ve directed this heartfelt film alongside an exceptional team: creative producer @niamh_west , Cinematographer @sean_monroe_dop, and currently in the hands of @frogfilms_post for editing. We’ve also had remarkable mentors guiding us every step of the way. A special thanks to @anuhenriques from BBC Films, Chris Young and the one and only Ian Sellar. Thanks for the faith you put in us. At its core, this film celebrates teenage sibling love, seen through the eyes and ears of a deaf person. It reflects the world we inhabit today, where cycles of violence and genocide tragically persist, all captured through the delicate bond of a brother and sister. We are eager to share more as this journey unfolds.💙 #MyLittleBlueHeart #BBCFilms #SeanConneryTalentLab #IndependentFilm #SiblingLove #DeafPerspective #scotland by @iqfilmmaker
Grateful, honoured, and genuinely inspired to have been selected for Network @ LFF. 🎬 Being part of this experience has been incredibly special, an opportunity to connect with talented filmmakers, exchange ideas, learn from established voices in cinema, and be reminded of the power of storytelling. From reading the ScreenDaily coverage and attending the BFI Network selection events to experiencing the premiere of I Love Boosters, every moment has been memorable. Having the opportunity to take part in a discussion with Boots Riley and share copious meals with the gang and Shane Meadows made the experience even more meaningful. A special and heartfelt thank you to Shaun Harrison, Naomi and Alice for the selection and for making this opportunity possible. I’m truly grateful for the recognition, the conversations, the connections, and the chance to be part of such an inspiring community. Thank you to everyone involved in making Network @ LFF such a valuable experience. I leave feeling motivated, humbled, and even more excited about the journey ahead. #NetworkAtLFF #LFF #BFI #BFINetwork #Filmmaking Photo captions in carousel order 1. This was part of my Q&A @edfilmfest last month following the premiere of my latest short film, My Little Blue Heart 💙, which follows two child siblings trying to live through the landscape of a Genocide. I honestly don’t believe I’m brave in saying this; instead, I think it’s rather cowardly to deny what you see in front of your very own eyes. To the artists who “don’t take sides”, remember the day will come when you’re asked about how you used your voice, and you will have nothing to say for it. To the millions who speak out and continue to do so, respect to you and let’s keep fighting the good fight. #freepalestineđŸ‡”đŸ‡ž #edinburgh #eiff #seanconnerytalentlab #independentfilm by @iqfilmmaker
One of the most unforgettable experiences of my life: sharing the journey with 21 incredible filmmakers. The past year has been a whirlwind of hard work, growth, and unforgettable memories, all leading to this moment. Every second spent on this project, working side by side with mentors and new friends, has been truly priceless. You all hold a special place in my little blue heart 💙 #EIFF #edinburgh by @iqfilmmaker

Today marks 31 years since the Srebrenica genocide. In 2024, I travelled to @bosnia and Herzegovina without fully understanding just how deeply that journey would affect me. I met people whose lives and families had been forever changed by the events of July 1995. I visited places where silence seemed to carry as much weight as words. It was an experience that stayed with me long after I returned home. That journey became the inspiration for my short film, My Little Blue Heart. The film is not an attempt to tell the entire story of Srebrenica- no short film could ever do that. Instead, it is a personal reflection on memory, humanity, loss, and the importance of listening to the stories of others. It was made with deep respect for those who continue to carry the legacy of what happened and for the families who are still seeking truth, justice, and remembrance. Today is not about promoting a film. It is about remembering more than 8,000 Bosniak men and boys who were murdered, acknowledging the survivors and their families, and ensuring that their stories are never forgotten. If watching My Little Blue Heart encourages even one person to learn more about Bosnia and Herzegovina, to understand what happened at Srebrenica, or simply to reflect on the importance of compassion and peace, then it has achieved what I hoped it would. Thank you to everyone who has supported the film so far. If you haven’t seen it yet, I’d be honoured if you took a few moments to watch it. May we remember. May we listen. May we never forget. 💙 #Srebrenica #SrebrenicaGenocide #NeverForget by @iqfilmmaker
Join us next Saturday, July 18, for a Palestinian cultural evening raising money for the Middle East Children's Alliance (MECA) at @levyoldlibrary, hosted by Hannah Spencer MP. Sondos Sabra, co-author of 'Voices of Resistance' (a New Statesman and New Arab 'Book of the Year' 2025), will be reading from her first-hand account of the Israeli Occupation's genocide in Gaza. Sondos's reading will be followed by a special 10th anniversary screening of Iqbal Mohammed's short film 'Three Minute Warning', set during the Israeli Occupation's 2014 assault on Gaza, followed by a Q&A session with the director. The evening will conclude with a unique poetry performance by the Gazan writers and visual artists Reem Hamadaqa (@she.reflects26) and Amna Shabana, accompanied by projections of the pair's artwork. The event will also include an exhibition of Palestinian comic book artwork, a craft stall of products made by Gazan women currently displaced to Egypt (run by the brilliant Sondos Ghalayini of @tadamun2026), a postcard stall featuring the artwork of Reem Hamadaqa and Amna Shabana, and a Comma Press bookshop. Palestinian food will be available throughout, courtesy of Dalloul, Haytham, and Loai Al Neder chefs and brothers from Jabalia, Gaza (@dalloulneder, @nederloai, @haytham_alneder1992). Vegetarian and gluten-free diets will be catered for. Special thanks to the truly brilliant Jen Wilkinson for organising everything ❀ Tickets available: linked in @levyoldlibrary's bio. All proceeds go to the Middle East Children's Alliance (@mecaforpeace). by @iqfilmmaker

A huge thank you to Chris Young and everyone at the Sean Connery Talent Lab for your support, guidance, and belief in our short film, My Little Blue Heart. It’s been a long year in Edinburgh, with plenty of challenges along the way, but I’m proud to say we’ve got a pretty damn good film made. That wouldn’t have been possible without the encouragement, expertise, and opportunities provided through the Talent Lab. A special thank you to the cast and crew (especially producer @niamh_west and editor @frogfilms_post) whose hard work, dedication, and creativity helped bring this film to life. I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who played a part in making it happen. Thank you all for being part of this journey. For those wishing to watch the film, we will be screening at Edinburgh International Film Festival this August. Full details will be released on 1st July. 💙 by @iqfilmmaker
Hey everyone, I’ve kept this mostly to myself, just between close friends and family, but I feel it’s time to share more openly. Over the last nine months, I’ve been facing some serious health issues. It all started on a film shoot in Edinburgh where I was off my food, constantly tired, had stomach pains, heartburn, and changes in my bowel habits. At first, I thought it was just nerves, but when I got back to West Yorkshire, the symptoms didn’t go away. After months of tests, I discovered that I had a 6 cm pre-cancerous lesion in my ascending colon. I didn’t share this earlier, because I was processing it, but yesterday, after further tests, I got some good news - no current signs of cancer, and for now, it’s clear. But the truth is, I’ll be under surveillance for the next five years. We caught it early, but this is a reminder of how crucial screening is. It’s often a taboo subject, especially for men, but I can’t stress enough how important it is. If something feels off, please get checked. I’m so grateful to everyone who’s been there quietly behind the scenes. Your love has been such a support. I’m still on this journey, but I’m here, I’m fighting, and I’ll keep you updated. Please, if you take anything from this, take care of yourselves and don’t be afraid to ask for help. by @iqfilmmaker
