For episode 4 of Renegade Radio, your boy rides solo.

Whatever you hear on this one, comes from the soul. Its organicy and breaky with some mean edits thrown in and an underlying theme of resistance permeating throughout. This is what RR is all about ✊🏽

Muchas gracias to Suffyan, Shutter Rhythms, Ahmad & Arkive for the rescheduled date. Honestly, I rly look forward to hanging with the boys once a month. I included a vid in the middle where its a long build up but you just see us bantering. The time and effort it takes, its rly not easy what theyre doing and they dont get enough credit. Shoutout for taking the time to spread good music, as well as shining a spotlight on all kinds of selectors 🙏

PS. Had tried my best to get Biliguudei on but couldnt fit him in due to routing after his show. What a set he played at Sarab though. Ay Caramba. More to come in Oct 🔊😌 by @iriejamesy

Circa May 4th 2023

I quit my full time job at DBS the day after her passing. Had no plans, nor a semblance of a roadmap of what I wanted to do, but I knew had to pursue the only thing that made me happy in life, as Eileen did.

I do not claim to know her any better than any of you guys, and I can only speak from whatever experiences I shared with her from 2016-2023. I am where I am today for the chance she gave to a young punk. Forever grateful doesnt cut it, for allowing me to practice on cdjs during the weekdays, providing massively discounted tix for guests djs in 2016/17 because she knew I was a skint student getting by, but most importantly letting me go of my residency at hq’s upstairs.

I could not understand it back then and I was angry as most young adults with hubris would take it. It was the biggest lesson I had to learn. It forced me to chart my own path and understand not to compromise a venue’s programming just because “I wanted to play harder”. I did not return for 4-5 months. During this time, I had no idea she had recommended me to QH for Kilo Lounge where I became a resident, I only found out much later. When I eventually did return, she invited me back with open arms as if nth ever happened. A true beacon of light, in all the darkness.

I met her last at a crypto art exhibition in 2022 where we shared a couple of drinks and I joked about how I entered the matrix with dbs and she was sharing about planning a new art exhibition about happiness that was coming out soon. I never got to go to that exhibition, which I deeply regret to this day.

She was my one and only mentor in dj-ing I will ever have. Although she was known as the mother of dragons for techno, her downtempo and ambient sets were truly something special. It was from her I learnt to never pigeon hole myself to any specific genre and that all types of music can work, given the right moment.

As the scene slowly moves on, I hope you know that there are a select few that will always carry your legacy with us in everything that we do ❤️🖤 by @iriejamesy

This was quite possibly my favourite concert Ive ever attended in Singapore. (RHCP 23 and Linkin Park 04 are a close 2nd and 3rd)

I cant remember the amount of times I played angel, bittersweet symphony, teardrop and paradise circus when I was residenting the sunsets at CLV skybar back in the day

How powerful were they though. They’re all 70+ but still rocking it out. Elizabeth Fraser stole the show for reals. Had goosebumps when she sang song to the siren.

The imagery they used in the background really forces you to introspect as well. How have we become so desensitized to human suffering in this age of tik tok and AI garbage. Distraction, distraction, distraction. Whens the last time you really heard yourself think? It was as if I was watching a documentary, and learnt so much from the data they shared.

Nothing but respect for them for being a voice for the downtrodden 🍉

Truly inspired ✨

For Episode 3 of Renegade Radio, we go through a journey of deep dubby textures into soulful, minimal house with special guest Mako

In this mix , Mako explores an array from his eclectic collection of warm minimal, dub and breaks that possess a certain character, with a slightly off-kilter thread running through.

Mako and I did a couple of all night sessions at Coda earlier this year where I really got to hear the depth of his selections. We played a couple of b2bs as well for Liquid Earth, Naone & Jesse You. One of the select few that plays with intention.

Upped the tempo a tad bit. Went a bit deep, techy and minimal for this one with some old school gems sprinkled in. Enjoy 🌊

I invited Emma to play at Cherry Kitchen in 2023 and remember her selection of Spray’s VT trad really impressed me. It was a breath of fresh air among that era of hypnotic techno. Been paying attention to her journey since then, and glad to have her on for this episode. Deep, Cosmic, Tough. All the right ingredients

Mannn does it feel good to be playing these sounds again. A tad bit rusty at the start but found the groove from the third track onwards. Feeling energised after it, cant wait to play these bombs out on a tight tight tight funktion one soundsystem real soon 🪬😏

That baby in the middle vid really made my day too lol. She literally told her mum whats that when they were inside the store, and the next thing you know they’re actually staying to listen for a bit. What a legend
