This is how we enjoy social dancing with each other. It feels honest, vulnerable, authentic; not bound by any specific dance style, no need to be particularly interesting; we do our best to honor ourselves, each other, and the music.Ben is truly a musicality and connection savant. WHAT IS MICROBAL?It’s a joke… well, a half-joke. For starters, there is no “MicroBal Fest 2026” event, and this parody video, as a whole, is an exaggerated reference to the fun we had at Breezy Balboa 2026. So what happened at the camp last week?For those who have social danced with me (or watched) in the past ~6-12 months, it probably comes as no surprise that the average number of sways I lead in each dance has grown progressively throughout the year. So much so that at CalBal this year, I did my first ever sway-only social dance (shoutout to @gracieclaire). It was surprisingly great, both comfier and more musical than I ever could have expected.At last week’s Breezy Balboa week-long camp, I began the week by experimenting with doing a good number of sway-only dances. They were consistently great. And then, during a sway-only dance with @irinabobina, we began to do sways smaller, then smaller, and smaller still, until both our feet stopped moving and we were standing there, seemingly motionless. To the external observer, we were “just standing there”, but within the partnership the dancing never stopped. It felt like playing a video game with the mouse sensitivity turned up to max. Or like we were in our own little world, and the longer we spent there the more that world expanded to its regular size. We gave each other that “holy shit!”look after the dance, and on February 1st, 2026, MicroBal began.We began to diligently spread MicroBal throughout the camp, and at the weekend party @handstandrea, with the help of @boom_squish, @dasha_balbasha, @tinpansoul, @yulai_liu, threw a peer-judged underground microbal contest. The rules were simple: 1) close your eyes, and 2) stay in sway position and do not step. Congrats to Daying and @ninalinanina for being the first ever MicroBal champions.It should also be noted that both Irina and I were primed and heavily influenced by @b.e.n_jam_in, who led me in one of the most memorable dance experiences I’ve ever had at the CalBal 2025 late night Westie room (micro fusion). Also, fun fact, a version of this was also done by Nelle Cherry and Adam Speen in 2023 (according to Nelle)!#microbal #balboa #breezybalboa by @irinabobina

☀️ ADVANCED JNJ ALL SKATE☀️ Headed out to the west coast finally to do some west coast swing and it was an intense experience. The talent in that building might have actually blown the roof off if hotel security didn’t shut us down Sunday night. This event was such an incredible time and I’m so glad I was able to share the floor with old and new friends. So much love for those friends cheering us on too. I know this is an all skate but this dance immediately became one of my favorites on a competition floor. I really wanted to share it here. I will be posting the spotlight eventually, but for now here’s one of the coolest pairings I’ve experienced so far. Irina Amzashvili, a literal champion Lindy Hop dancer?? I wasn’t aware prior to our dances (unfortunately I’m not very well educated on other dance styles) and a true jnj.
