My mom grew this monstera for 3 decades after we first moved to Canada…then passed it to me when she sold her house!🌿

The girls are obsessed with their new shared space and often trace the florals with their little fingers.

I am very much not a home design expert. But I am someone who thinks our homes should feel like the people who live in them and sometimes that means being willing to move beyond the safe choice.

So when I was choosing wallpaper for our powder room with @timberleainteriors, these were the things I actually thought about:

✨ What mood do I want this room to have?
✨ Does it work with the rest of our home?
✨ How does it actually look in this room and this lighting?

Repotting our beautiful behemoth of a Monstera with my mom because this plant job requires two people… and one of them carried the team (I tried, mama!)

A few things that worked for us:

1. Prep everything first: fresh soil, gloves, tools + a clear workspace.
2. Loosen the root ball gently before trying to lift it out.
3. Get help! A plant this size is definitely a two-person job to remove the old soil without damaging the stalk.
4. Prune the top if you want to stop it from getting taller, then propagate the cutting.

Nothing like fresh soil and removing dead leaves to give our girl a fresh start.

Working mom life means I don’t have time for complicated plant care, but I will absolutely make time for a little plant therapy with Mom. 🤎

Fall extracurriculars are back.

Kid 1: ballet, hockey, piano

Kid 3: …grocery store.

I promise he’s still in the “come along for the ride” phase. 😂

Excited for another season of coordinating 47 activities, packing snacks, finding missing gear, and somehow getting everyone where they need to be.

Kinder will be a big transition for our family this year, so we’re trying to get ahead of the chaos by building our routines ahead of the first day.

Hard to believe summer is coming to a close, and our annual trip deserved another spot on the grid.

Our original Reel about this trip had hundreds of shares, so apparently you’re are just as invested in making the annual friends trip happen as I am. ✨

Five families. All working full-time. And somehow we’ve managed to make this happen for five years.

Grateful all these corporate working-parent skills do come in handy outside of work! Building a village takes effort and so does maintaining one. I’m pretty sure our kids growing up with these friendships will be worth every spreadsheet, grocery list and shared Airbnb.

Since 2009, we’ve done a weekend summer trip to Fernie. Here’s how the day goes:

We wake up and make crepes with my mom (just like she did when we were kids) then pack up and head to the lake for the day.

Paddle boards, beach time, and roadside ice cream makes for the perfect summer day.

The best part is watching the turtles swim by us from the paddle board!

There’s something pretty special about getting to recreate the summers we grew up with, but now with my own kids.

The first time we planned this trip we had no kids.
Now it’s five families, nine kids, countless cups of coffee, shared grocery lists, golf dates, brunch dates, crafts, cocktails, and kids who start asking months in advance when “the invermirror trip” is happening again. 🥹

We’ve learned that traditions don’t happen by accident. They take a little planning, a little division of labour, and a lot of showing up. Here’s what makes our annual trip work:

🏡 1. One big house: Everyone gets their own room (plus space for the little ones), and we split the cost.

🍽️ 2. The same meal plan every year: We’ve finessed a menu that works for everyone, including our vegetarian + celiac crew, so we can spend less time meal planning and more time together.

✨ 3. Everyone plays to their strengths: One friend finds the perfect house, I bring some kids’ craft, @paviselvaraj makes incredible lunches, @monalisa_ brings the espresso machine, and we even have a resident cocktail dad.

⛳️ 4. Parents get their own traditions: Guys’ golf date, gals’ brunch date. A little time apart makes the time together even better.

👣 5. We protect the tradition: We’re all working parents with growing families, and every year there are more kids, more logistics and more reasons it would be easy to skip. But we put it on the calendar and make it happen.

As working parents, it’s so easy for friendships to slip into “we should get together soon.” This trip reminds us to actually put the date on the calendar and protect it.

And now the kids are old enough to understand that this is our trip.
