Mortars!The Micks have recently finished the Mortar cadre, a demanding course that ensured that the Mortar Platoon can fulfil their main warfighting task and prove it is ready for Operations. Carrying heavy kit whilst training hard, this course tested everything, however the Micks smashed it and are in a great place ahead of their exercise in the USA for the next few weeks!☘️☘️☘️#blueredblue#householddivision#irishguards by @irishguards

Anzio, Operation Shingle.The Micks have recently returned from a battlefield study of Anzio, discovering more about the gallant actions of the battalion when it fought in Anzio on Operation Shingle in 1944.The Operation had sought to relieve the stalemate experienced by the Allies as they advanced through Italy, designed to bypass the main German defences and open the way to Rome.However, the initial success in conducting the landings was faced with difficulty, with fierce German counterattacks focused on the Irish Guard's positions. The Battalion was reduced to a single operational company.The battlefield study was an opportunity to walk the ground our fellow Micks fought over, paying honour to their sacrifice and keep their memory alive. Up the Micks!Sport is huge in the Irish Guards, with opportunities to play to the best of your ability at all levels. This week saw the Micks host an Inter-Company Golf competition, which became a fiercely fought and close affair that saw Number 9 Company emerge as well deserved victors! Ex LADYSMITH MICKOn 13 May 2025, the Micks deployed to South Africa to complete an Adventure Training package in the Drakensberg Mountains. Operating at altitudes of up to 3,000m, all personnel successfully qualified in Summer Mountain Foundation despite the demanding conditions. The expedition presented challenges far beyond the terrain itself, including the diverse wildlife found throughout the parks.Among the key objectives completed was the ascent of the Amphitheatre, an imposing 3km cliff face with drops of over 1,000m. The Micks also reached the summit above Tugela Falls, recognised as the world’s tallest waterfall, with a total drop of approximately 950m.They were also able to enjoy the surrounding area during stand down periods, experiencing safari tours alongside a range of cultural activities that showcased the local heritage and environment. ☘️#blueredblue #irishguards#householddivision by @irishguards
