It was lovely to be part of the event at the @familienzentrumpaunsdorf ! You really thought of everything: delicious food, fantastic arts & crafts and face-painting activities for the kids, music and dancing, and plenty of entertainment.

If you’re looking for family- and child-friendly activities in Leipzig, Familienzentrum Paunsdorf is definitely worth checking out. Especially now that the colder season is approaching, we’ll definitely be visiting more often! 😊

My gear that I’ve been carefully collecting since 2024. 🎥

The coolest thing is that I actually use and appreciate every single piece of it. I’m still dreaming of adding a few more light sources, a suction cup, and maybe a drone someday… 😅

But ultimately, I believe the most important thing for making good videos isn’t the gear. It’s storytelling. And I’m kind of torn. For social media, you need dynamic edits that catch your attention l, almost epileptically fast haha. But on the other hand, I think films that carry a story and have a deeper message are really important. Unfortunately, no one on Instagram has time for that. Don't you think?

Slowly getting the hang of dynamic editing. The camera feels more familiar every time, and my style is starting to take shape.
Bingeing tutorials in post, and even reading a book on filmmaking 😄
Somehow I reject to film vertical 😭

Nobody sees the hours behind the short edit. Do it anyway, it's worth it.

I filmed an INTERVIEW for the first time. My biggest takeaways:

1. Think about the edit before you shoot.

People naturally answer questions like they would in a conversation. But after editing, the viewer won’t hear my question, so some answers can feel completely out of context.

On my second shooting day, I asked people to answer in complete sentences instead:

“I come here because…”
“What I like about this place is…”

That way, the answer still makes sense without hearing the question.

2. Always do a test recording.

Record even one minute first and check the sound, picture and framing on the spot.

I learned this the hard way: I had to reshoot the entire interview because I forgot to connect the mic to the camera. I checked that the mic was turned on — but I didn’t actually test the recording. 🤦‍♀️

3. Check your footage on a bigger screen.

What looks fine on a small camera display can look very different on a laptop.

I noticed small focus issues and camera shakes that I simply hadn’t seen while shooting.

So: don’t just check whether you’re recording. Check what you’re actually recording.

Still learning, still making mistakes. But getting better with every shoot. 🎥

Been there. Overthinking everything, trying to come up with an idea that’s practically guaranteed to succeed. But no one can tell you whether your idea will actually work. You just have to go for it, stay persistent, and trust yourself. by @irynasharp
