Chestburster rig for the preshow for Aliens in 70mm at @musicboxchicago to kick off October!! 👽👽👽

I sculpted the wee guy and made a plaster mold of him so that I could cast it with a layer of latex. I added some support with a flexible two-part foam so he kept his shape, but still made sure he remained hollow so I could slip him on top of a spring. I attached those into a cardboard tube that sat within a foam chestpiece. Then I built some texture around the base with a foam clay before painting it all and adding elastic straps. To allow him to pop out at the right time, he was able to be squished into the carboard tube and held in place using a metal pin so that in one fell swoop the shirt could be ripped open, the pin could be pulled, and the chest could be burst! Stuffed some confetti in there for theatrics before Matt @moviehousecomics put him on and gave an Oscar winning alien-infected performance.

All of this was preceded by some wonderful alien egg action where one of the eggs opened (!!!) and a facehugger sprung on Matt. The eggs were created by Josh @blackened_pages , thanks for joining us on this!

Thanks Matt for having him and bursting for the cause. Happy October!!! 🎃🎃🎃 by @isa.fav.makes

It is a gift for Athena.

Trojan horse for our Odyssey run at @musicboxchicago !

All cardboard as per usual, with some plywood to keep the base sturdy. Thanks Yuyu @yooyooblue and Matt @moviehousecomics for helping cut cardboard strips and Yuyu for painting and transporting with me, absolutely couldn't have done it without you. If you see scuffs on it, we weathered it on purpose. It's not because we had to squish him through my small apartment hallway and definitely not because he was in the U-Haul when we hit big potholes...

Second horse I constructed in less than 6 months. Not a lot, but more than expected. Thankful that I get to do this! 🐴📦🐴

The Balrog of Morgoth

Another creation for our LOTR preshow before Fellowship on our marathon day! Thank you Matt @moviehousecomics for having him!

You know the drill, cardboard -> papier mache.

And a guest appearance by my talented friend Lucy @lucy.sloan who painted him with all the evils of the old world, I just about thought he was truly glowing when I saw him. Thank you thank you thank you ❤️‍🔥 by @isa.fav.makes

"Behold the Argonath, the Pillars of the Kings!"

Happy Lord of the Rings weekend! These were my main contribution to the theatre decor. I had always wanted to recreate these in some form and I'm grateful I got to do it in this way!

Made entirely out of recycled cardboard, it collectively took about 2 weeks to make them. I started by getting the general size of it in a big rectangle and then planned about the shape in cross sections, so that I didn't have to do much shaping as I covered it. After it was all covered, I used some rolled up paper for extra detail and to smooth out certain places to make it look more like cloth. It was honestly a lot of guesswork and I was finding out how to do it as I went, especially the faces. I'm always surprised when it works out!

Georgia @z1nz.an and James @spvcespvce helped me papier mache these guys, and thank goodness for that. It would've taken an eternity alone and would've been much less fun. We painted them with the additional help from Lily @boxofficebust . Let's have another thank goodness for that. An eternal thank you to you three <3

Thank you Yuyu @yooyooblue for helping me load and unload them! Thank you James for helping me get them on our old box office! Thank you @musicboxchicago for letting this be a space where I can make something like this, especially for the movies that mean so much to me. I am lucky to be part of it and to be just one of the many people that have contributed so much time and effort into these few days. Can't wait for everyone to see what my friends have cooked up ⚔️🔥🪾🌿🧌🏰🌋👁️ by @isa.fav.makes

Giant grasshopper puppet head I made for a recent student film 🦗

Started off sculpting him in plasticine, then made a brush-on silicone mold with plaster for support. Casted that in plastic, chopped off the little pincers, and reattached them with elastic so that they could move freely. I put some wire loops on the backing so that the puppeteer can move them, as well as a hole in the top for a wooden dowel to go in to control the head movement.

Finished him with acrylic paint and put in his antennae, which are wire wrapped in strips of paper with some mod podge to keep it together. Very happy with how he turned out! by @isa.fav.makes
