So this is 40...

This birthday feels like a milestone enough to actually post about it, which might be a first for me.
While life has thrown a lot of changes my way over the last year, both professionally and personally, I can't think of anything that I'd change.

I will offer a few pieces of sage wisdom that I have gleaned over the years and have been leaning into more and more in my advanced age 😅:
Be unapologetically and authentically yourself. Anyone judging you doesn't matter. Cultivate relationships that bring you up, and don't waste your time on those that bring you down. Don't sweat the small stuff, but do pay attention to detail.
Treat others as you want to be treated and you will more often than not feel fulfilled.
Hokey as that all sounded. I couldn't be more sincere.

"Rodeo Free Europe" (5.14a) Wild Iris, Wyoming. First Ascent by Jason Campbell @climbjason back in 1998 and climbed here by me on October 5th, 2024.

To say that this ascent means a lot to me is an understatement. I've only climbed the grade once before, and that was close to 10 years ago, so with my 39th birthday rapidly approaching next month, it felt amazing to clip chains the other day and actually believe that my hardest climbing is still ahead of me.

I tried "Rodeo Free" once last year, and began trying it in earnest this season. Between late May and early October, I made the 5.25 hour drive from Denver to Wild Iris/Lander, Wyoming 10 times, and I sent this past Saturday, first go from the ground, ending my saga with this finicky, fingery testpiece at 20 total days.

Sometimes it takes a village, and I owe a huge amount of gratitude and recognition to the friends and loved ones who supported me on this journey and helped me push through my imposter syndrome: @jfriz21 (who has belayed more sends of RFE than anyone else ever) @jonathan_horst @lukesta91 @jerrrrbs @_frenchroast @high_fall_risk @joelunema @beckett_aizeki @buckyedor.

Finally, I would be remis if I did not point out that today is October 7, one year to the day since the horrific Hamas terrorist attack on Israel that instigated the current war, making today feel like October 373, 2023 for millions of Jews worldwide. One year later and 101 of our brothers and sisters are still experiencing a daily nightmare in underground terror tunnels, their fates yet unknown. ... Been a minute since I posted, but I'm down in South Carolina this week, setting at @capitalclimbingcayce for their fourth annual Crush 4 Cash comp, and the crew got out to climb on this little piece of sandstone today before zipping back to the gym to strip boulders and start setting!
I tried this boulder a few years ago, but had to come back for redemption today! Stoked to have touched rock before three more days of plastic slinging!

Well after a fairly frustrating five day rain and snow delay out here in the Hueco Tanks, I was finally able to get back out today with @dustygene and @or0graph1c and finished off "Funkmoe's Extension" (~v10 light duty), marking yet another tick off my Roof Quest. This one has some pretty fun foot first climbing followed by just a smidge of crimping to earn the top out.

My first two-week Hueco trip of the season has come to an end, and I'm definitely starting to feel that Hueco Tanks groove again. Stoked to be going back in a couple of weeks, but equally stoked to set a competition and recharge the old batteries back home in Denver for a couple too. Here are a few additional roofs ticked off of my Roof Quest, as well as repeats of a couple of other classic bouldies.
1), 2), and 3) A painfully protracted flash of "Screw Driver" (~v7), East Mt
4) Flashing "...Three Foot Toothless..." (~v6), East Mt
5) First try repeat/reflash of Sex After Death (~v8), East Mt
6) First lap of the season up Jigsaw Puzzle (~v5), East Spur
7) First try from bottom ascent of "Moonshine Roof Left" (~v6+), with my buddy Mike Anderson spotting in front of my phone 😉😅

Happy New Year from the Hueco Tanks! Today (NYE) I took a group of friends on a super fun tour of the classic "Mark of The Beast" circuit, three notoriously tricky sloper "V6"s, on the East Spur/adjacent. While only I was able to finish all three, my clients tried hard and came close! I had to put in some work to achieve the feat, and I even had the advantage of having done the full circuit a couple times over a decade ago, LOL. In order:
1) That High-Pro Glow
2) Uncut Yogi
3) Alf in a Blender

2025 has been a year full of change for me, as I stated in my 40th birthday post last month, but I wouldn't change a thing about it (okay maybe just one), and I'm looking forward to a beautiful 2026!
Hope everyone reading this has a happy and safe NYE! I may be missing the person that I'd like to be kissing at midnight, but I hope most of y'all are with those you love or at least enjoying a good party!!! 🥂🍻🎆🎇🎉 by @isaac_palatt

Damn it feels good to be climbing rocks in the Hueco Tanks again! Missing someone (and my cat) back in Denver something fierce, but thankful for every opportunity to climb on these beautiful boulders.
Here's another from two days ago, "Wooden Mushroom" (~v9), which revolves around some tricky kneebar tech down low, followed by some nice flowy keep-your-shit-together exit climbing. It may not qualify for my Roof Quest, but it's certainly worth doing!! If you're out here in Thy Tanks, holler. I'll be around a lot this season.

First week back in Hueco Tanks of the season and I'm already back grinding on my Roof Quest. Gotta catch em all!
Today's roof was "Spaghetti Western," another great addition to Thy Tanks by @jasonkehl_cryptochild, and certainly worth climbing if you enjoy that 3D style as much as I do! Sent a few others so far too, so there are more boulders to come!

Chanukah photo dump 2025/5786
I love Chanukah! Not just because it's eight days long, though admittedly that doesn't hurt. Happy to have shared this year's with so many wonderful people.

I'm down in Hueco now for a couple of weeks! (And again in Jan, and Feb) Holler if you're out here in the desert and wanna touch rocks or catch up over a beer.
