We are slowly chipping away at recording a bunch of songs that we intend to release at some point in the future.

We started them with Andy at @roseneath.recording.studio late last year and we are finishing them up with @isaacbarter when we can make it work.

Zac has a bunch of random percussion stuff to get distracted by, but the children’s froggy castanets sounded surprisingly good, so they’ll probs make the cut!

NEW ALBUM ALERT! ”Luminous As It Is” the fourth Coda Chroma album is out today! I’m very pleased and proud to share these songs I have written, all 11 of them with you - they’re yours now! Take them and do what you will! :)

THE WRITING
Some of these songs were caught after breakfast, others fell out as a whisper late at night while the house was asleep. A few were coaxed out by a weekly songwriting group, and as usual, they all began with the music, the words following as translation of the notes.

These songs are vignettes of bigger thoughts at large, like with all of us, a lot is going on behind the scenes - Luminous reflects a little of my brain and soul.

THE RECORDING
I can’t go further without a huge credit to the wonderful @damiencharles who produced, engineered, and mixed Luminous. Damo is world class and it’s nuts that I get to work on Coda music with him all the time. We laid down the rhythm beds with @hoooolly_drums and @isaacbarter exceptional musicians and humans at @oaklandsproductions
Damo and I overdubbed guitars, vocals, synths, percussion in our home studio, Ghost Oak, using what we had on hand and lends from folks like @brian.campeau and @felicityelsbethcripps . Nat Lewis recorded her incredible harmonies (swoon), amazing @angiehartsmusic on “Talking Is Overrated” Chrissy Derales with brilliant BVs on the closing track “Friend”. My kid Ramona makes a star appearance on “Faded Denim”
The amazing @boonysaxman worked with Damo to develop beautiful string arrangements performed by two different ensembles, with @lizzywelshviolin @rubyshirres @zedoheedotdot @bengibbons3551 and Leigh Raymond @pennyquartet with @robertmuinos

MIXING
The brilliance of mixing this beast ensued, with Damo hearing things that even our K9 can’t. Tough decisions were made, songs were discarded and the final 11 were polished into the gems they are today. More than satisfied, we bundled the songs to wizard @lachlanjc for that final alchemistic layer: mastering!

LISTENING
Damo and I received the songs back from Lachy and sat in silence, listening to Luminous from start to finish. “It’s the best yet!” I said. And I mean it.
