Travels into the hidden heart of Veneto from Asolo,home of the legendary adventurer Freya Stark, walking on top of Cittadella’s lofty walls, watching players on Chessboard square in Marostica, tasting Grappa in the shadow of the pre Alps in wonderful Bassano del Grappa. Sardinia was a bucket list wish for years so the chance of a short dive into this gem of the med thanks to The Italian Tourist Board UK and Ireland was too good to miss . Staying in the capital Cagliari with my friend Wendy and exploring historic districts, port side and tiny alleyways . Wonderful guide Francesca took us out of town to Nora a 40 minute drive past Lagoons dotted with flocks of flamingo. Formerly a pirate no go area. I swam in the crystal waters beside Roman ruins submerged through erosion and watched the archaeological dig at the vast site that reaches back to the 8th C BC. I’d never heard of luxury mid ship, Oceania Cruises until recently, hardly surprising in a world besieged by ever larger and more specialised cruising. Now, having tried out an immersive culinary focused journey aboard Oceania Marina at sea( Belfast to Bordeaux )for four days I’ve experienced food porn on another level whilst in culinary heaven during a four hour long brunch! Coasting down the blustery Irish coast,from Belfast to Dublin and onwards to Cobh before crossing the big sea to Bordeaux on elegant culinary cruise specialist Oceania Marina. With - around 2,000 passengers it’s the largest ship - I’ve ever been aboard and a minnow compared to the average monster sized vessels out there now. Long live an era of easy accessibility and elegance.

Wroclaw’s old town is the quintessential photo opportunity and extraordinary to think that much of it was reduced to rubble after WW2. “Share the love’ the receptionist writes on a card at the end of my stay at Aloft, a newish hotel in the heart of the historic Liberties of Dublin. He should have added “share the awesome view”. The hotel’s 7th floor has a fabulous panoramic vista, all the way from the Four Courts dome via Teelings distillery to the Dublin mountains. I loved my stay - ticked every box - , from unlimited eco friendly cartons of chilled water and fresh fruit in the lobby to superb scrambled egg - imagine that on an extensive buffet breakfast. My only regret was not having my beloved Jac Russell Tiny along to ‘share the love ‘ in this pet friendly home from home.
