Recently I’ve been thinking a lot about time.

We tend to pass through hours in a day like popcorn in a bucket, just eating away at every last second until there’s none left and we wonder where it all went.

I’ve been thinking a lot about the concept of “plans”.

About the idea of “rest”.

For many of us, our lives boil down to the idea that we have to make something of ourselves.

But what if we realized we were already made?

Recently I met with an 81 year old man to talk about life.

At first, this was just a project for my degree—but what I learned intrigued me.

This man lived a great life. He’s been a traveler, an activist in the civil rights movement, a cross-country bull rider, a professional actor, a husband, a father, a hotel manager, and many more.

His story is one I once aspired to have, but to him, it was merely life. He spoke of death how we speak of birthdays. To him, it was just a passing of time.

At first that scared me.

And then it calmed me.

God did not create us without purpose.

Even if our purpose is to simply exist and love people for the entirety of the life we were given, that is still purpose.

I was gently reminded to slow down.

To just exist.

Whether that means going to a country on my bucket list or just taking time to paint a picture in my living room, it all has a purpose.

I was reminded of this, not in anxiousness of lost time, but in security of a life lived.

Slow down, but do so with intentionality. Your purpose will not be wasted.
