Who would’ve thought… 1st place in my first ever competition as a lead 🥇

I know I’ve already posted about this but I had to again because
1. Wanted to post this photo with Jasmine
2. Wanted to post all our dances
And 3. Ya girl loves to talk and I had more to say about it🤣

Ive been competing as a follow since 2024 and it’s been a hard journey to make it past prelims. So to make finals as a lead and somehow place first in my first comp as a lead was, frankly hilarious and meant a lot to me.

I have a bit of a controlling personality and that’s one of the things that drew me to leading (because I deep down thought I could do it better than the boys) 🙃 I also just liked being able to get my friends on the dance floor when they were sitting out waiting for a lead

Now, I’ve come to see just how much responsibility and thought goes into being a lead. Which has caused me to love leading even more.

As a follow, the joke goes that your job is to “just follow”
But as a lead, you’re thinking about
“Am I on time?”
“Am I giving my follow space and listening to them?”
“Am I taking the correct steps?”
“Am I leading with my body?”
And so much more.

On top of it, the luck I had in drawing my good friend Jas in finals was CRAZYY and I had so much fun dancing with her 🫶

So thank you to everyone who said yes to dancing with me, your favorite midget lead.

And most importantly, thank you to @seth_hoog24 for being my biggest supporter and the best teacher who taught me everything I know about leading modern swing. There’s no way I would’ve made it past prelims without you 🩵 by @isabelle.robledo

Had so much fun dancing with @mattcas64 in pro/am finals at @jamieleedancefest !!

Fun fact, Matt competed and won the first dance convention I ever went to back in 2024 and I distinctly remember thinking while watching him dance that weekend “oh shit I didn’t know people could be this good” 🤣 whether it was in j&j or strictly finals

To dance with him this past weekend was an honor and felt like a full circle moment that reminded me how much I love country swing

Thank you Matt for the dances! 🫶 taken in Corvallis, Oregon by @isabelle.robledo
