Ashley Sylvester. Not just my cousin but my sister. She showed me Hairspray for the first time, picked me up from school, took me for ice cream in the corvette, she babysat me when I was sick, and when I couldn’t fall asleep laid on the grass outside with me, she held my hand while we walked around Disneyland, and she gave me my first job.

A job that kept me on my toes. There were days we were swimming in boxes, sweating or freezing on the mezzanine, jumping the fence to the storage unit, or climbing the shelves to grab a box from the very tip top.

I often resented this job because it was hard.
What I didn’t realize at the time, was how lucky I was that every day I got to walk in the door to the office and see my family. That I got to bring my best friend to work and play music as loud as I wanted and tape up orders with Hanna. That Hanna and I got paid to go pick up Ashley’s sunglasses from the restaurant she forgot at team dinner the night before. I had no idea that jobs where your cousin isn’t your boss are really no fun.

Ashley has always been someone I admired, she’s my oldest cousin after all. She’s funny, loving, smart, successful and strong willed. She is loyal, and has a strong circle of people around her. She loves her friends and family so much. I’ve known most of her friends my entire life. I feel like they’re my own. In fact, two of them nannied me. She keeps the ones she loves close. I’m blessed to get to experience her love and loyalty.

I’m lucky to have been able to watch the evolution of this business every step of the way. I didn’t know how lucky I was in 2019 to be apart of it, and I didn’t know how sad I’d be because it’s closing in 2025. I will always be thankful for this job. I learned so much about business, I was given incredible opportunities to be creative and make my vision along with Ashley’s come to life, and I had so much fun along the way.
