scandal of the summer by alexandra vasti 🌊🌷🏴‍☠️

this author has pioneered my love and appreciation for regency romance books and i don’t think i’ll ever get enough. the reader is truly transported to the time period. the description of fashion, architecture and place make for a wonderful immersive experience. the vocabulary was true to the era while still maintaining a slight of modernity, making it easily digestible to anyone that is new to regency romance. the plot was fast paced and playful, the right amount of chaos to keep you on your toes. i loved their schemes and their adventures.

ruby ballimore. my heart went out for this sweet girl. feeling like she was too much in a world that was too little. she is full of wit and joy, bringing such light to everything around her. i loved her friendship with tamsin and alice, girlhood!!

malcom archer. the calming shore. his quiet and gentle care, his pure kindness. while he may have been a scheming pirate it was never in a way that caused harm to others. he is so protective of the people he cares for. i lived for his rakish pirate charm, truly brought out the most giggles.

the back and forth between ruby and malcolm was delectable, their conversations scintillating with displays of blunt and dry wit that meet humour and charm. their dynamic is one that reminded me of ‘my lady jane’ in the best of ways. i was left giggling, gasping and entertained. i found myself holding on for the next interaction, wondering what delightful conversational swordplay would come next. their chemistry was off the charts. once the romance began to unfold, it was so beautifully done. the yearning, the tension, ugh!! swoon!! this man lives and breathes ruby ballimore. they truly do smooth each other’s jagged edges. theirs was a romance so sweet. there was a perfect amount of steam, and while i typically would’ve liked a bit more of a slow burn, i can’t blame the girl when it comes to a charming pirate with dimples.

i hope these last weeks have been good to you and that the next brings everything you’re hoping for💗 wishing you all a happy summer solstice as well!! i feel as though this year has been such a whirlwind so far, i’m looking forward to the summer months and hopefully being more present on here. luckily things should be slowing down and i’ll be able to return to my regular pace - much needed!!

tropesick by lauren okie 💌
releases today!

tropesick took me by surprise in the best way. i really really loved this one. short and quick chapters made for an easily addictive reading experience - one that kept convincing you that “one more chapter wouldn’t really hurt??”.

there is much to love about this book. though starting with its namesake, rather than being presented the regular execution of tropes of the genre, the author writes them in in a way that feels renewed and exciting. we’re on the outside looking in, watching authors write tropes that just so happen to be playing out in their own lives. the trope selection scene with pinot (!!) more like a series of fortune cookie readings.

this story is just so immersive and beautiful. you are taken from the hustle and bustle of manhattan with cramped apartments and favourite coffee shops to the wide open coastal beauty of southampton. the setting is described in such lush and cinematic detail, i can’t help but wish to jump into the pages.

the characters are layered and intense, coming with their own sense of mystery as to how they became the people that they are today. there’s the painful angst and emotional rawness, unfinished business and a hesitant desire to bridge the gap. katie and tyler bring so much to the story. you feel for them, deeply. you want to help alleviate some of their grief, their burden, their isolation. one thing i do wish we got to see more of was their romance. this is described almost as a second chance romance and we get tidbits like how she has “always loved him”, but i felt as though the true development of this wasn’t exactly reflected in the flashbacks.

unflinching in its descriptions of addiction and grief, you are made to sit with the discomfort of these themes. you witness the devastation caused by events that alter people’s lives forever. you understand the deep and lasting affects these choices have, how it scabs over (sometimes to heal and sometimes to scar). i found it to be beautiful in its honesty.

an honourable mention for 91%, this story caps off in pure magic.

hiiii, happy sunday!!🌷📖🌈

i hope these last few weeks have been kind to you and that the next is even brighter!!⭐️ my days have been filled with the usual, though i’ve been spending much less time on my phone (yay!) and spending much more time with my hobbies outside of that💗 i’ve recently acquired an obsession with murdle puzzles and drip coffee in the morning, trying new recipes in the kitchen, getting back to a bit of painting and appreciating / researching fine art, and admittedly, some pinterest during my phone hours🤭 though the hobby that’s easily taken most of my time lately is reading. last pic is what i’m really looking like pre-bedtime after a long day at work lol

since we last caught up, i’ve finished ‘in her own league’ and manyyyy arcs. for a girl that hasn’t read more than 3 books a month since september well…. it’s refreshing and so much fun🤪

happy sunday!! happy women’s day!! happy spring!!🌷🦋

it’s been awhile, i hope you are well and that the last few weeks have been kind to you!!!🥹💗 life has been much of the same with work taking up lots of time + energy (gotta get those building permits out before construction szn!!), so i’ve truly been making the most out of my free time and spending lots of it offline. i’ve reread old favourites and read new ones, finished up the latest season of bridgerton, rewatched comfort movies and have been planning some fun crafty bits i’d like to do this month. lots of music too, olivia dean, the bridgerton soundtrack (the 360 cover is stuck in my head and i’m not complaining) hozier, and fleet foxes have been on repeat🙂‍↕️ though this weekend’s highlight has easily been the release of kissco, i am so in love with this album!!!!!!⭐️ my ranking is constantly changing.

books i’ve read as of late:

currently making my way through ‘in her own league’ (had to pause briefly to read my arc in time for release), my audio reread of keeping 13, and about to close out my ouabh reread with a curse for true love!

i’ve been reading at a much slower pace than usual these last few months. where i used to see anywhere between 7-10 books a month, i’ve been getting 4 if i’m lucky! it’s been a weird transition, though one thing i am enjoying about it is that i find myself reflecting on my reads a little more deeply.

bits and bobs

happy sunday!!!💌 i hope that the last few weeks have treated you well, that they’ve been filled with good reads and cozy warmth during the winter season. i hope that the next is even kinder to you⭐️ life lately has been filled with work (+ overtime), quick trips home to see my loved ones, cold winter days, living for all of the book / album announcements, lots of coffee, facetime catchups, getting steps in, coffee / bookstore dates, rewatching bridgerton, listening to old fav music, and staring at my new bookshelves🥹

a reading update since we’ve last caught up (mid jan, yikes): i initially tried to dive right in to fallen stars by imani erriu but after a few chapters i remembered why i always need a reread before the next release in a series - i forgot everything lol. so i returned to reread heavenly bodies (even better the 2nd time around btw) before making my way back. i really enjoyed fallen stars and found it to be a beautiful continuation of the series. loved the expansion of the world building and magic system, the plot, all of it.

i’ve since started my annual reread of once upon a broken heart by stephanie garber💌 there’s just something so whimsical and comforting about these books. i love returning to the magnificent north in february. it’s become something i can always look forward to. i’ll most likely finish the first book today and start the next this evening⭐️

things that i’ve been grateful for lately:

hiii, happy sunday!!💗🌟

i hope you’ve had a great last few weeks and that the next is even kinder to you!! mine have been a bit more quiet, taking time to settle in with the winter season and making some capital big decisions💌 some quick highlights:

⊹ harry’s new album announcement!!!!!!!!! i am FREAKING!!!!!!
⊹ new szn of tell me lies (unwell)
⊹ pwmov movie!! i have thoughts but it is always so so fun to see one of your fav author’s books being brought to the big screen
⊹ percy jackson episodes on wednesdays
⊹ so very very proud of my sister who scored her 1000th career points in her uni basketball career!!!!! (very very proud btw, she’s a star)
⊹ having lots of fun with pinterest
⊹ the knave and the moon cover reveal!!! i love

the books!! i’ve officially finished two books this year, working towards my goal of 52! i’ve never put much pressure on my reading output but it’d be sweet to have a book a week!! one thing i’d like to focus on this year is only reading one book at a time. i feel as though in the past year i’ve had a habit of reading more than one and it almost takes away from the full experience of the one book.

that being said, my first read of the year was in your dreams by sarah adams!! a most bittersweet ending to rome, kentucky, this series will always be so comforting! my second read was my arc of graceless heart by isabel ibañez. the world and magic system were so unique, you just felt completely immersed. both of these landed at a 3.5 for me, while i enjoyed reading them i didn’t feel the wow factor i had been hoping for!

i’ve just started fallen stars by imani erriu (like 3 chapters in lol) and i am incredibly excited how this book will continue the series!!

things that i’ve been grateful for this week:

happy first sunday of the new year⭐️💗

i hope you’ve all had the most wonderful of weeks, and that the next brings all that you hope for!! i am back in the city after spending the holidays with my family and friends and feeling so well rested after this much needed time away from the office. this week was filled with cozy pjs, endless cups of coffee (and a few mimosas), movies, and rest. i’ve taken zero pictures (aside from silly ones of my siblings) so please forgive the lack of a carousel.

i’ve always found that a soft entry to the new year has done me best, so i’ve been taking my time to reflect and plan for the new year over the weekend and the next few days. i am not totally sure how the year will unfold with changes big and small but i am excited to find out!! i have so much to look forward to and only more to come💗

aside from planning the rebrand, i’ve been slowly making my way through my acotar reread and in your dreams. both of these worlds have always brought me such comfort, i am so happy to be a part of them once more🥹

things that i’ve been grateful for this week:
𐙚 spending lots of time with my people!!
𐙚 the most amazing coffees from my fav hometown coffee shop (i have yet to find one that beats it)
𐙚 quiet and restful days
